Every web professional needs to have a personal site to showcase and highlight their work. Most start off designing their site in photoshop or by diving straight into the code while others start by asking simple questions and determining what’s needed to accomplish certain goals. The main goal for my personal site was to supply a home base for my WordPress Plugins and where I can be found around the web.
When I first started deciding how to redo my personal web site, it had been quite some time since using my personal domain, and I didn’t want to use any of my old content – so here I was with little content, poor graphic design skills, and a WordPress Framework… I wanted something simple that I could direct people to while networking. I needed to highlight who I am, what I do and what I’ve done. I also needed somewhere to supply support for my published code, each WordPress Plugin and Project received it’s own post in WordPress and were placed in the appropriate categories. Already I resolved most of my concerns by simply creating a post in WordPress, users could now comment on the post related to the plugin they use or require support for.
I didn’t want an extensive navigation, contact form or download system; To keep things simple I chose to link out to my Twitter, LinkedIn and WordPress Plugin Directory Profiles as my navigation until I had more content/pages.
