10 signs that show you’re a classy person (2024)

If you think being a classy person is about the material possessions you own or the way you dress, you’re wrong!

True class has nothing to do with your clothing or bank account balance.

What a surprise, right?

It’s all about the way you act and present yourself to others.

And how your actions make others feel.

Here are 10 signs that show you’re a classy person.

1) You respect everyone (or the ones worthy of it)

Regardless of their social status or position.

You know that being polite and courteous to everyone you meet is the mark of a classy individual.

You consider how your actions make others feel.

And thus you try to treat those around you with equal respect.

Because that’s the way you would like to be treated as well.

As the proverb goes, “you get what you give.”

When you think about it, it’s really just common sense.

Respect is something that should be given to everyone.

It doesn’t matter if the other person is rich or poor, young or old.

2) You’re confident, but NOT arrogant

You walk with your chest puffed out, head held high, and a sense of authority that can’t be denied.

But the thing is, you’re not arrogant.

You just know how to accept a compliment with grace and humility.

And when it’s time to step up and take credit, you do it without being a boastful bragger.

Now, that’s a classy move!

You also have an unwavering sense of self-assurance.

But you never let it turn into something that’s arrogant or offensive to others.

Classy people like you know how to balance confidence with humility.

And you never let yourself cross that line into arrogance.

3) You have great manners

If you have good manners, then it’s a sign you’re a classy person

Just like your mother (or your father) taught you as a young child, being polite is a vital part of being a classy person.

You have a quiet grace about you.

And you exhibit the manners of someone who has been taught to treat everyone with respect.

You don’t just say “thank you” when someone buys you a drink, or say hello when someone makes eye contact.

Instead, it’s part of your nature to verbally acknowledge what others have done for you or said to you.

And it’s not phoney or phoney-baloney.

It’s spontaneous and genuine.

Even when it comes to small gestures that are unimportant in themselves.

Like holding the door for someone, smiling at a stranger in line, or simply asking how someone’s day is going.

You also talk to people politely.

You don’t interrupt them, you don’t speak over them, and you actually listen to what they have to say.

I’ll explain more in my next point.

4) You’re well-spoken

Classy people are articulate and have a way with words.

They communicate clearly and eloquently.

And they’re able to hold intelligent conversations on a wide range of topics.

When you’re speaking to people in a formal setting, you speak in clear and concise language.

Words that are easy to understand, and well thought out.

You don’t say “um”, “ah”, or “you know what I mean?” as a substitute for good grammar.

And you certainly don’t use slang, dialects or jargon to try and impress others.

Instead, your vocabulary is refined and appropriate.

When you speak, people listen.

Your words carry weight.

It’s not about talking just to fill space.

Because you know how to choose them wisely and when to say nothing at all.

Period!

5) You’re always on time

Being punctual is a sign of class in and of itself.

A classy person is never late.

They know how to schedule their time properly so they can get the most out of their day.

And they take pride in always being on time and getting things done.

It also shows that you want to be respected and appreciated as a person, by other people.

Being fashionably late is the sign of a cheap person, who doesn’t care much about the feelings or time of others.

Classy people are different.

Because being on time means that you not only pay attention to what others have to say, but also give them your full attention as well.

And it’s not based on someone else’s schedule.

It’s based on what YOU want, or more importantly YOUR schedule.

6) You dress for yourself, not for other people

Hey, I know I said that being classy isn’t about what you wear.

But it’s different when you dress not to show off, but to look good for your own pleasure.

You know you should be confident enough in yourself to put on whatever makes YOU feel good.

And when it comes to picking out what clothing to wear, you try and make sure it goes with everything.

It’s not about looking trendy or fashionable.

Or to brandish your wealth and show off your designer purchases.

But it’s about making choices that look good on your body type.

That’s a sign of class.

You know that you’re stylish, beautiful, and unique, just the way you are.

And that’s how people should see you when they look at you.

However, being fashionable is meaningless if you have bad hygiene.

I’ll get into more details in my following point.

7) You’re neat and tidy with your appearance and personal hygiene habits

If you keep your personal hygiene habits updated and in check, then it’s a sign that you’re a classy person.

This doesn’t mean you’re obsessive about it, but you take pride in being clean and well-groomed.

A classy person understands that the way you look (or smell) affects the way others perceive you.

Thus they are always neat and tidy with their appearance and grooming habits.

And they keep their personal hygiene habits up to par as well.

It’s not an easy thing to do if you struggle with it every day.

But it’s necessary if you want to be seen as a classy individual.

You don’t have to be doused with perfume or cologne to smell good.

A clean, freshly washed body is all you need to feel and smell clean and fresh.

You keep your hair, face and nails in order as well.

8) You’re educated and well-read

Classy people have a broad range of knowledge.

They’re smart, witty, and able to carry on intelligent conversations on a wide variety of topics.

Because they always know what’s going on in the world around them.

And they make sure they can back up what they say with facts when necessary.

I realize that it’s not the most glamorous characteristic you can have.

That’s because being well-read doesn’t mean you’re a know-it-all.

In fact, you understand that being well-read can actually make you smarter and more informed.

It helps with your vocabulary and understanding of the world around you.

When I say “educated”, I mean to have a reading list that is both extensive and interesting.

You read fiction, nonfiction, poetry, magazines…you name it!

The goal is to broaden your horizons by educating yourself on all the things you haven’t learned yet about the world around you.

9) You’re friendly and social

And you enjoy it!

A classy person is warm, genuine and sincere.

That means you’re not fake, you’re not awkward and you don’t see it as an obligation.

You get along with everyone, and you make friends easily.

You crack jokes with your buddies, or make small talk with the people at your local coffee shop or store.

It comes naturally for you because of your outgoing personality, and that makes it easy for others to like you.

Additionally, you love meeting new people and making new friends.

It doesn’t matter where they’re from because you just love learning about different cultures, lifestyles and beliefs.

Not just on vacation or vacations-to-be, but on your daily lives as well.

10) You have a strong sense of self-worth

You’re happy with who you are.

And happy with your life choices and the decisions you’ve made up to this point.

Classy people have what they need and they know their worth.

And when they look in the mirror, they like what they see.

When you’re very confident in yourself, it shows in your actions, expression and thoughts as well.

You understand that confidence is one of the most important qualities of a person.

Because it allows you to feel good about yourself.

It doesn’t matter what other people think or say about you.

You know that at the end of the day, only you know the truth about who you are and what your life means to you.

Flashy is not classy

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be rolling in dough to be considered a classy person.

In fact, being classy has nothing to do with how much money you have in the bank or what kind of car you drive.

But your attitude, personality, and mindset.

It’s about how you carry yourself, the words that come out of your mouth, and the way you live your life on a daily basis.

These are the things that truly matter in the end.

Because once you have those things in order, you’ll notice how much easier everything else becomes as well.

It shows in all of your actions, and people can see that it’s not just a façade.
