2022 NFL alternate helmet schedule: When will teams wear secondary helmets this season? (2024)

With the season in full swing, what is the NFL alternate helmet schedule for 2022? For a while, NFL franchises were limited to just one option concerning helmet choices. In the 2021 offseason, the league announced that teams could have two different helmets starting in 2022. With four teams ready to debut alternate and throwback helmets in Week 4, let’s look at when each team will sport their new (or vintage) looks.

2022 NFL alternate helmet schedule

After the NFL’s announcement in the 2021 offseason, 13 teams decided to bring back a second helmet to their uniforms. Eight teams created new alternate helmets to pair with their existing color schemes. This includes the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, Washinton Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans.

The New York Giants, New England Patriots, and Atlanta Falcons brought old helmets back to pair with the throwbacks they intend to wear this season. Finally, the Dallas Cowboys somehow managed to debut both an alternate and throwback (which would technically allow them three helmets). However, when looking at the two additional options, the only difference is whether the logo is a throwback or not. There are no other color or design differences.

When will these new outfits take the field? Week 4 kicks off the NFL alternate helmet schedule, starting in primetime. The Miami Dolphins head to Paycor Stadium (editor’s note: that will never not sound weird) to take on the Cincinnati Bengals, who will pair their white uniforms with the new “White Bengal” alternate helmet to create a sleek all-white look.

Three more secondary helmets will be featured on Sunday when the Saints and Commander debut their black alternates and the Giants wear throwbacks. Here’s the rest of the NFL alternate/throwback helmet schedule for the 2022 regular season by the team.
