What do you use that for? Or does it really matter? I know using my 5:3:1 for cranks, lipless cranks, and spinner baits. For everything else i use 7:1:1. What would the 6:3:1 be more pairable with? Thanks and God bless. |

Good for anything really. |

Anything faster the light spinnerbaits roll on faster retreives. I also use a 6:3:1 for jigs, worms, and topwaters. Never tried a 7:1, but thought about it. |

| As an avid angler with a deep understanding of fishing gear and techniques, let me share my expertise on the concepts discussed in the forum post about gear ratios. The participants in the forum are addressing the gear ratios of fishing reels, a critical factor in determining the speed at which the line is retrieved. Based on the evidence presented, it's clear that the participants have a wealth of experience in using different gear ratios for various fishing applications.
The main focus of the discussion is the 6:3:1 gear ratio. Here's a breakdown of the information provided:
-
6:3:1 Gear Ratio Explained:
- The user KSalcedo222 inquires about the purpose of a 6:3:1 gear ratio and how it compares to other ratios. The general consensus among the participants is that 6:3:1 is considered an "all-purpose" ratio, suitable for a wide range of fishing techniques.
-
Versatility of 6:3:1 Gear Ratio:
- Aaggiegolfer emphasizes that the 6:3:1 ratio is versatile and can be used for anything.
- Eezbassin mentions that most of their reels have a 6:1 ratio, using 5:1 for deep cranking and spinnerbaits, and 7:1 for lipless baits, buzzbaits, and frogs.
-
Specific Applications for 6:3:1 Gear Ratio:
- Ssnmcc expresses a preference for the 6.3 gear ratio specifically for crankbaits.
- "Old School" uses a 6:3:1 ratio for jigs, worms, and topwaters.
- 210amatuerangler breaks down gear ratios further, suggesting that 7:+.1 is suitable for pitching, surface baits, lipless cranks, and jerkbaits, while 6-7 is ideal for shallow to medium cranks, jigs, soft plastics, and spinnerbaits.
-
Other Gear Ratios Discussed:
- Some participants mention using 5:1 for deep cranks and express interest in trying a 7:1 ratio for certain applications.
- BBan-D prefers reels with a minimum 6:3 ratio for all-purpose use but opts for a 7:1 ratio for frogging and worming.
-
Clarification on Notation:
- RRanger09 provides a clarification regarding the notation, stating that it should be read as "6.3:1" rather than "6:3:1," highlighting the importance of precision in describing gear ratios.
In summary, the participants in the forum exhibit a nuanced understanding of gear ratios, discussing their preferences and applications for different ratios in various fishing scenarios. Their collective expertise provides valuable insights for anglers seeking to optimize their gear for specific fishing techniques.
