Adding Money Games Counting Coins Games + Poem – 7 WAYS TO PLAY - (2024)

Make adding money and learning to count money fun and engaging with these Money Coin Counting Games! Plus an original coin poem complete with large images so you can make a large version on chart paper if you’d like.

❤️ 7 WAYS TO PLAY THESE COIN COUNTING GAMES! ALL LEVELS:

Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, Quarters

❤️ ❤️You can also use these like self-checking flashcards by cutting the sheets into strips the short way and folding so that the coins are on the front of each card and the total value on the flip side. Glue or staple after folding.

✅ Game 1: Select 10 pairs of matching cards at your students’ level. Place those 20 cards face down in 4 rows of five. Students play Memory or Concentration, turning over 2 cards at a time and keeping them if they are a match. The game is over when all cards are gone. The winner is the student with the most cards, OR for a real challenge the winner can be the student with the greatest coin total!! Keep cards that belong together in individual baggies.

✅ Game 2: MISER! Select the coin cards that are appropriate for your students. Add a few miser cards. Place cards face down in a pile. Students in turn decide how many cards they think they can successfully solve without drawing a miser card! If a miser card is drawn before the student draws all his cards, the student must return his or her cards to the pile. Students keep each card that they total correctly if they do not draw a miser card. The game is over when all banks have been drawn or when the time is up. The winner is the student with the most banks, OR for a real challenge the winner can be the student with the greatest coin total!!

✅ Game 3: Select the coin cards that are appropriate for a group of students. Add one miser card. Play like Old Maid. Deal all of the cards to the players. Be sure to select an amount of cards that is equally divisible by the number of students. Players put down any matches that they have. Players fan their cards, and, in turn, each player picks a card from the player on his or her left. As play proceeds, players put down any matches made. The player who is left holding the Miser card is the Miser.

✅ Game 4: Select the coin cards that are appropriate for your students. Place cards face down in a pile. Students roll a die to see how many cards they can pick. Students keep each card that they total correctly. The game is over when all banks have been drawn. The winner is the student with the most banks, OR for a real challenge the winner can be the student with the greatest coin total!!

✅ Game 5: Select coin groupings that are appropriate for your students. Students line up the pigs as though they are on a race track. This creates a “follow the path” type game. Each student has a game token. Students take turns rolling a die, moving that number of spaces and remaining there if the student can correctly total the coins that are on the space where the student lands. The game ends when someone reaches the last bank.

✅ Game 6: Select appropriate cards for a particular student. Keep cards face up. Use cards as a simple matching activity. This is a great ray to differentiate, providing students with cards at their own levels.

✅ Game 7: GO FISH! Select pairs of cards that are appropriate for a particular group of students. Students play the GO FISH! game, by asking, “Do you have the card that says 47 cents?” OR, “Do you have the card of coins that totals 47 cents?” depending on which card they have.
