ARM Processors – Issues Viewing / Serial Number Issues (2024)

Why does my serial number on the ERO screen not match what I entered? Also, I am having trouble viewing or calculating tax returns in the software.

When you experience issues with your serial number entry, or viewing/calculating tax returns, the first thing to check is the type of processor that your machine is running. It is likely that your machine is running a processor using the ARM-based architecture.ARM-based processors are not currently supported by any Drake Software product.

To check which type of processor your computer uses: :

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on the System icon.
  3. Click About on the left side menu at the very bottom.
  4. Under Device specifications on the right side, check theSystem type. This will indicate either a x86-based processor (32-bit), x64-based processor (64-bit), or an ARM-based processor.

What are common computers that use this processor type?

Many laptops are currently using ARM-based processors. Examples include: Microsoft Surface Pro, Samsung Galaxy Book, HP Elite Folio, Lenovo Flex 5G and the Acer Spin 7. Additionally, the entire Apple “Mac” line of desktops and laptops currently in production (as of late 2020) use the M1 chip or M2 chip, which is an ARM-based processor.

If your computer is not running with an ARM-based processor and you continue to experience issues, please contact Drake Support for assistance at (828) 524-8020,

Can I use Hosting on Right Networks to access Drake if my computer uses an ARM processor?

Generally, yes. As long as the other system requirements for Right Networks are met, you shouldbe able to use that computer when accessing Drake throughHosting on Right Networks.

FAQs

What is the problem with ARM processor? ›

Limited software support: Some software may not be optimized for ARM processors, which can lead to compatibility issues and performance limitations.

What are the limitations of ARM processor? ›

Disadvantages. ARM is not compatible with x86 programs like Windows OS. The speeds are limited in some processors. The simpler instruction set may be inadequate for heavier workloads.

Does Windows 11 support ARM processor? ›

Windows 11 adds the ability to run unmodified x64 Windows apps on Arm devices! This ability to run x86 & x64 apps on Arm devices gives end-users confidence that the majority of their existing apps & tools will run well even on new Arm-powered devices.

Does Windows 10 run on ARM processors? ›

Yes, Windows 10 was the first version ported to Arm. Can Windows 10 on Arm run 64-bit apps? Not in emulation. Only native 64-bit (Arm64) apps work with Windows 10, along with x86 and Arm32 and apps.

Why did Apple switch to ARM processors? ›

Different from the Intel, the ARM processors using simple RISC instruction set keep energy wastage to a minimum. Also, due to the simple instruction set, they need fewer transistors, which allows for smaller integrated circuitry. All these bring high power efficiency for ARM processors.

What is the difference between ARM processor and normal processor? ›

Arm processors can execute many more millions of instructions per second than Intel processors. By stripping out unneeded instructions and optimizing pathways, an Arm processor can deliver outstanding performance while using much less energy than a CISC-based processor.

What are the three categories of ARM processors? ›

The Cortex portfolio is split broadly into three main categories: Cortex-A -- application processor cores for a performance-intensive systems • Cortex-R – high-performance cores for real-time applications • Cortex-M – microcontroller cores for a wide range of embedded applications.

What are the fundamentals of ARM processor? ›

One-Cycle Execution Time: ARM processor is optimized for each instruction on the CPU. Each instruction is of a fixed length that allows time for fetching future instructions before executing the present instructions. ARM has CPI (Clock Per Instruction) of one cycle.

Do all phones use ARM processors? ›

Discover the IP that Goes into Smartphones All Over the World. Arm CPUs are the leading smartphone processor IP on the market today. 99% of premium smartphones are powered by Arm. Arm GPUs deliver first-rate performance and efficiency for your smartphone.

How much RAM does Windows 11 Arm need? ›

RAM: 4 GB. If your PC has less than 4GB of memory, there are sometimes options for upgrading to get additional RAM. You may want to consult your PC manufacturer's website or with a retailer to see if there are easy and affordable options to meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11.

Is Windows ready for Arm? ›

With Arm developer hardware now shipping, Windows is ready to embrace an NPU-powered AI future. It's been a long time coming, but Microsoft has finally delivered on its promise of a complete set of developer tools for Windows on Arm, from hardware to software, with support for Arm-specific platform features.

Is Windows 11 Arm or x64? ›

The Windows 11 on Arm operating system itself relies heavily on Arm64EC's interoperability to enable running x64 applications. Most operating system code loaded by an x64 app running on Windows 11 on Arm will have been compiled as Arm64EC, enabling native performance for that code without the application knowing.

Can ARM processors run 64-bit? ›

there are both 32-bit and 64-bit ARM processors. 64-bit ones can run 64-bit apps and 32-bit - can't. But both 32- and 64-bit ARM processors cannot run apps for PC (for x86 or x86-64 processors) i.e. for typical Intel or AMD processors and vice versa.

Is ARM processor still used? ›

With over 230 billion ARM chips produced, as of 2022, ARM is the most widely used family of instruction set architectures (ISA) and the ISAs produced in the largest quantity.

Does Chrome run on Windows on ARM? ›

Windows on Arm PCs can emulate any app that's made for an Intel processor. There's nothing stopping you from running Google Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave, Opera, or whatever other browser you can get your hands on. It's just not very good.

Are ARM processors good? ›

Efficiency

On the other hand, ARM-based processors are optimized on both hardware and software, which makes them highly efficient processors that require very little power. Requiring little energy to operate also means relatively lower heat, allowing ARM CPUs to be embedded in a System on a Chip (SoC).

Why Intel does not use ARM? ›

Intel processors are incapable of comprehending ARM code, and vice versa. As a result, the operating system and software must be tailored to a single CPU type. It is possible to execute software designed for one type of CPU on another, although this usually results in significant speed and efficiency losses.

Will ARM replace Intel? ›

announced its intention to switch from Intel to ARM processors for its Mac devices. Microsoft Corporation followed suit, announcing in December 2020 that it intends to design its own ARM-based processors for Azure-based servers and Surface line of PCs.
