My long-term goal is to become financially independent through blogging and investing.
In truth, I mainly want to be be financially independent through dividend investing and have blogging as a side hustle.
To my surprise, my blog income is actually outpacing my dividend income in 2021.
August 2021 was another one of those months that kept blog income in the lead.
This was in spite me mentally checking out during the month. I took the month off to enjoy the rest of the summer. I resisted being as active on social media and the blog itself.
But even though I took it easy during the month, blog income ended up being one of the highest of the year so far. Frankly, the timing of payments worked in my favour even though traffic was lower.
In this post, I will show you how much blog income I earned in August 2021, and I will share details about my website traffic and marketing strategies.

Blog Income Report August 2021 — Why I Share Blog Income
You might be wondering why I have the audacity to share my blog income publicly.
Although I’ve alluded to why before in previous posts, I will mention the reasons again.
Mainly, I am an analytical person who enjoys looking at incremental progress and numbers. When I reach early retirement, I want my job to be managing my investment portfolio and blogging. This is what I want to do for a living.
By sharing my blog income report publicly, I am also hoping to help other bloggers. I find blog reports fascinating to read, so I assume other bloggers would enjoy reading them as well.
In addition, it shows that I am committed to the tagline of this blog: financial independence through blogging and investing. I am literally building income streams through blogging and dividend investing.
Finally, I am hoping to learn something from the numbers and improve.
Blog Income Report August 2021 — Highlights
- $200.06 was earned from blogging in August 2021
- 138% increase over blog income earned in July 2021
- Month-over-month Monumetric display ad income increased by 30%
- $80.07 CAD generated by Monumetric display ads
- In-email ad payment from Interactive Offers received of $119.99 CAD
- Net profit of $137.67
- Organic search traffic increased by 473.98% over August 2020
- The blog maintained over 10,000 page views nearly on auto-pilot
- 2nd highest month for blog income of the year
Blog Income Report August 2021 — $200.06
I earned $200.06 from blogging in August 2021.
After blog expenses, a net profit of $137.67 was earned from blogging in August 2021.
10% or $20.01 of gross income was invested, and the rest is sitting in a separate expense account to pay for blogging activities.
The increase in income is mainly due to the timing of a payout from Interactive Offers. I received a payment for my in-email ads because my account balance crossed the $100 threshold.
Otherwise, Monumetric display ad income was up substantially over last month. It increased by 30% over the previous month. It’s worth noting that display ad income is always money that was earned two months prior. So, the display ad income I earn in August is money that was earned in June 2021.
To summarize this month’s earnings, a 30% jump in display ad income and a payout from Interactive Offers pushed blog income in August 2021 to the second highest month for blog income this year.

Blog Expenses Breakdown — $62.39
I spent $62.39 on managing this blog in August 2021, which is slightly higher than last month.
Similar to last month, the reason for the increase was mainly due to CAD to USD conversion.
As for the expenses, I spent on web hosting with Bluehost, Canva Pro for marketing, and Ubersuggest, which is a keyword tool.
Overall, it was a very positive month for the blog, as it generated a net profit of $137.67 after expenses.
Besides saving 10% of this month’s income, the rest of the blog income was added to my blog expense account. The amount of money in the expense account is beginning to accumulate, which is good for covering expenses. However, too much money doing nothing is not a good thing. So, I am looking for ways to reinvest it back into the blog.

Website Traffic — Blog Income August 2021 — 10,808
Unsurprisingly, page views were down in August 2021.
I basically took the month off and did not keep up with my normal routine. Most of August’s posts were scheduled in July, so I really didn’t put in a lot of work.
In addition, it was August, so more people were enjoying the outdoors, as they should be.
Anyways, the good news is that blog traffic remained above 10,000 page views per month despite my efforts.
Furthermore, page views still increased by 2,164 or 25% over August 2020. In total, the blog generated 10,808 page views in August 2021.
This was mostly because organic search traffic was up 474% over the same month last year.
Otherwise, the number of users increased by 167% compared to August 2021, and sessions increased by 124%.
So, even though I took it easy and it is a slower season, blog traffic performed quite well during the month.
Website Marketing Strategies — How Traffic Was Generated
As per usual in 2021, organic search generated the bulk of my website traffic.
In total, 50.9% of my website traffic was generated by organic searches.
After organic search, direct and social media traffic each accounted for 23% of total traffic.
Otherwise, referral and email chipped in 1.6% or less of total traffic.
Of the social media traffic, Twitter led the way, as it accounted for 64% of all social media traffic.
Surprisingly, Facebook generated over 23% of all social media traffic. It appears to be an area of opportunity.
None of the other social media channels generated more than 2% of social media traffic.
Content In August 2021 — 13 Posts Published
I published a total of 13 posts in August 2021.
Well, really, it was 12 because one guest post was published.
Nevertheless, I maintained my three-per-week posting schedule during the month.
To be honest, most of the August posts were scheduled back in July. Regardless, I still managed to keep up my schedule.
But since I took so much time off in August, maintaining this schedule in September and October is going to be challenging.
I will try to keep it up and I will do my best. Adding a guest post in per month helps as well.

Social Media and Email Subscriber Growth
Social media generated over 23% of website traffic in August 2021.
Of that social media traffic, Twitter accounted for over 64%.
Meanwhile, Facebook generated 23% of social media traffic and the other channels, Pinterest and Instagram, are hardly worth talking about.
I do still spend time on them though, for branding and in case something changes.
But I should be devoting more time to Twitter and Facebook—the channels that actually drive traffic.

Goals For September 2021
My main goal for September 2021 is to get back in the groove.
After taking most of August off, because I was too busy with work or trying to enjoy the summer, I want to get back to writing two posts per day off.
Also, I want to maintain my social media schedule daily.
Mainly, I want to maintain my three-posts-per-week schedule.
But it’s going to be challenging because I am working more hours this month.
Fortunately, another guest post will be published, which will help me stay ahead of schedule.
Otherwise, I’m going to have to put in the work.
Blog Income Report August 2021 – Final Thoughts
In summary, I earned $200.06 from blogging in August 2021.
After blog expenses, a net profit of $137.67 was earned.
10% of blog income was saved, and the rest is accumulating in an expense account.
The increase in income was a result of a payout from Interactive Offers and 30% jump in display ad revenue.
Although website traffic was down compared to the previous month, it was up by 25% compared to August 2020.
Furthermore, organic search traffic was up by over 473% compared to the same month last year. And it generated over 50% of total traffic in August.
Moreover, if I combine my dividend income and blog income, I earned $251.98 in total passive income during the month. I’d say my plan to become financially independent through blogging and investing is slowly coming to fruition.
Of course, I must mention that I am extremely grateful to be able to earn income from blogging. It’s incredible to be able to earn anything at all for something I’d do for free.
