Ask Question?

Skateboarding is a sport and popular recreational physical activity. Skateboarding burns about 350-575 calories each hour for the average person.

You can use this calculator to calculate how many calories are burned while skateboarding competitively with vigorous effort and leisurely with moderate effort. The number of calories burned doing this exercise depends on your muscle mass, body fat percentage, age, sex, body weight, and many other factors other than your effort.

Generally how many calories you burn depends on the weight you are and the effort you put into it. The more you weigh and the more effort put in, the more calories you will burn regardless. The numbers given on this calculator are an estimate and do not count for the factors I listed above.

How to calculate the calories burned skateboarding

The calculator uses MET values to calculate how many calories a person would burn skateboarding. MET values are values given to activities that determine their caloric expenditure. Skateboarding has a MET value of 5 for moderate effort skateboarding activities and a MET of 6 for competitive skateboarding activities.

The MET value of the activity along with your weight and time spent doing the activity will be used to calculate calorie expenditure to give you the approximate number of calories burned while skateboarding.

    How to use the calculator?

    • Choose the unit of measurement – Kilograms or Pounds
    • Enter your weight and time spent skateboarding
    • Choose skateboarding activity (General/Competitive)
    • Hit Calculate

Once you hit calculate, you will be presented with the total calories burned while skateboarding competitively and non-competitively during the amount of time you spent doing it.

    Formula

    • Calories burned each minute = (MET x bodyweight (in kilograms) x 3.5(oxygen used by muscles per minute)) / 200
    • Calories burned per hour = calories burned each minute x 60 (minutes)

MET is a value that measures the energy expenditure of an activity for a period of time.

An activity with 1 MET is equal (roughly ) to the energy expenditure of someone inactive and not digesting.

An activity with a MET of 12 uses 12 times the energy of a task with a MET of 1.

    Example

A person weighing 200 pounds (kg) skateboarding competitively (MET value of 6) for an hour (60 minutes)

    Calories burned each minute = (MET x bodyweight (in kilograms) x 3.5) / 200

    Calories burned each minute skateboarding non-competitively = (5 x 90.7 x 3.5) / 200 = 7.94

Calories burned while skateboarding with moderate effort for an hour = 7.94 x 60 = 476
