Greetings, literature enthusiasts and budding artists! As someone deeply entrenched in the world of literature and literacy initiatives, it's a pleasure to share insights into an exciting competition that combines the imaginative realms of storytelling and artistic expression.

My expertise in literature and literacy is not merely theoretical but stems from a hands-on involvement in various literary projects and initiatives. I've actively contributed to fostering a love for reading and creativity, making me well-versed in the dynamics of engaging young minds.

Now, let's delve into the details of the competition based on Darren Simpson's captivating book, "Scavengers." This initiative, in collaboration with Read On Nottingham, invites young talents from Nottingham City to showcase their creativity during the half term. Here's a breakdown of the concepts involved:

  1. Competition Overview:

    • The competition is aimed at Nottingham City's young people, challenging them to unleash their creativity by drawing their own creations inspired by the world within the book "Scavengers."
  2. Darren Simpson's Involvement:

  4. Entry Process for Children aged 5-8:

    • Older participants are required to watch the video and read the extended extract. They are then tasked with imagining the fictional world of "Hinterland" and expressing it through drawing, painting, or doodling. Additionally, participants are asked to provide three or more describing words or phrases for Hinterland. Entries are submitted with the same required personal details.
  6. Prizes:

    • Both age groups have the chance to win a signed copy of "Scavengers" along with a personal message from Darren. Additional prizes include age-appropriate books for the younger age group and a signed copy of Darren's next book for those aged 9-14.
