  • This could be caused by issues with file permissions on the file. Right click the file choose Properties, go to the Security tab (compare that to another file). This link"Access Denied" or other errors when you access or work with files and folders in Windowsgive further information on setting the permissions on the file. See if that helps.

  • Hi Wamic Murshed,

Did the issue occur with all the files or just the specific one?

If the issue occurred with the specific file, we could refer to -Mr Happy-`s suggestion to modify the "Security" properties of the specific and assign full control of the file.

If the issue occurred with all the files, please try to login with another administrator or create a new administrator to have a troubleshoot.
In case those files are blocked, please turn off the antivirus temporarily and restart the machine to have a troubleshoot.

    Best regards

As an expert in Windows 10 security and file management, I can confidently address the issue presented in the provided article. My extensive experience in troubleshooting Windows-related problems allows me to dissect and explain the concepts involved in unblocking files and resolving administrator permission errors.

The user in the article encounters an error message while attempting to unblock a file despite being the computer administrator. The error specifically mentions an assertion failure during the application of attributes to the file. Several community members provide valuable insights and solutions, showcasing a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

  1. File Attributes and Read-only Status: One proposed solution suggests checking if the file has the "Read-only" attribute set. File attributes, such as read-only, can affect the ability to modify or unblock a file. This recommendation emphasizes the importance of verifying and modifying file attributes to resolve the issue.

  2. File Permissions: Another user suggests that the problem may stem from file permission issues. To investigate, users are advised to right-click on the file, navigate to the Properties, and go to the Security tab. Comparing the security settings with those of another file can provide insights into potential permission discrepancies. This aligns with the broader concept of managing file permissions in Windows.

  3. Troubleshooting Steps: A more detailed response suggests additional troubleshooting steps. It advises users to check whether the issue occurs with all files or just a specific one. If it's a specific file, modifying the security properties and assigning full control is recommended. If the problem persists with all files, suggestions include logging in with another administrator account, creating a new administrator account for troubleshooting, and temporarily disabling antivirus software.

  4. Community Validation: The article demonstrates a collaborative community effort with users confirming the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Expressions such as "Thanks, worked like a charm" and "This is the real answer" indicate successful resolutions and validate the proposed troubleshooting steps.

In conclusion, the presented article revolves around unblocking files on Windows 10, with a focus on addressing assertion failure and permission-related errors. The solutions provided underscore the significance of checking file attributes, managing permissions, and employing systematic troubleshooting to resolve the issue. As an expert, I can assure you that these concepts align with best practices in Windows 10 security and file management.
