If you make a mistake or need to update a message, you can edit or delete the message.
Important:
- When you edit a message, you can’t go back to the previous edit or the original message.
- When you delete a message, you can’t undo it.
- Chat notifications may include the original message.
- After you (or other members in a conversation) delete a message, the message is permanently removed from your Google Account and can’t be recovered.
- You can download previously edited messages from your Google Account. Learn how to download your data.
Edit a sent message
- On your Android device, go to a conversation and touch and hold your message.
- Tap Edit.
- Make your changes.
- Tap Send

- On your Android device, go to a conversation and touch and hold your message.
- Tap Delete.
- To confirm, tap Delete.
