Why is my frame rate capped at 144? ›

The monitor can't display more frames per second than its refresh rate. So a 144 Hz monitor can never show more than 144 full frames per second, just as a 60 Hz monitor can't show more than 60 FPS. Will a game with 120 FPS run at the same FPS on a monitor with a refresh rate of 60Hz?

Monitor Settings:

Ensure that your monitor is set to its maximum refresh rate. You can do this through your graphics card control panel or the display settings on your computer. Double-check that the monitor cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) you are using supports a higher refresh rate.

So for a 144Hz monitor, a cap of 142FPS, if available, can work better. The idea is to avoid a change from variable adaptive sync to a fixed sync rate, and of course to never allow screen tearing.

basically: your monitor is 144 hertz, you wont get any noticeable frames if you go higher than your monitor's refresh rate, hence the fact that it is capped at your monitor's refresh rate, case closed.

There's really no point in capping your framerate. Just leave it uncapped. The point is not to get framedrops and to keep your fan from freewheeling or overheating your pc.

Vsync will lock fps to the cap of your display's refresh rate. You will need a sufficiently powerful GPU for this. 4k defines display clarity and fps defines display smoothness.

If it doesn't have GSync and the monitor is set to refresh at 144hz then chances are you'll get some tearing, which is when the frame buffer (the in-memory representation of the image to be displayed on screen) updates before the monitor is finished refreshing, and you end up with portions of 2 different frames on ...

Basically everyone notices the difference between 60Hz/120Hz and 240Hz. When talking about 144Hz and 165Hz, the move to 240Hz may not be as immediately visible, but the lower lag and smoother response will still be there regardless of whether or not you can “see” them.

You can have a higher output from your GPU but you cannot see anything more than 144FPS. The Hz rating is how many changes can appear within one second on your display panel, it cannot do better than its maximum rating. For 240 FPS you will need a 240Hz or better monitor.

This is currently a in-game bug and is being investigated. "In the last patch we made an update with the intent to cap frames at 300 if players bypassed the default 144 frames per second. This introduced a bug that capped frames to 144 regardless if players uncapped it or not.

If your FPS is able consistently stay above your monitors refresh rate leave them uncapped. If your FPS dips under your monitors refresh rate consistently cap 1-2 fps under that refresh rate.
