In late 2022, ahead of the 2022 World Cup, Adidas will change their logo. We take a look at the history of the Adidas logo, including the first-ever, the famous Trefoil logo as well as the modern logos of the Three Stripes.
Adidas was founded by Adolf "Adi" Dassler who made sports shoes in his mother's scullery in Herzogenaurach (Germany) after his return from World War I. In July 1924, his older brother Rudolf joined the business, which became Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory The brothers split up in 1947 after relations between them had broken down, with Rudolf forming a new firm that would become Puma, and Dassler forming a company formally registered as Adidas AG from Adi Dassler on 18 August 1949.
Adidas Logo History - 1949-2022
The first-ever Adidas logo was introduced in 1949. The three stripes are implied utilizing extended stems of the "d" s themselves to interact with an illustration of a shoe and Adi's name crowning the emblem in a semi-circle. Adi Dassler often referred to his venture as the "Three Stripe Company".
In 1971, the now-iconic Trefoil logo was introduced. The icon was built from three radiating leaves with the now-ubiquitous three stripes running through the lower half of the emblem. They were a visual symbol of the company's aspirations for growth in a rapidly shifting market.
The Adidas logo that is replaced in 2022 was introduced in 1990. A powerful design, the modern Adidas logo is supposed to resemble a mountain while featuring the Three Stripes and the adidas writing.
Adidas to Change Logo

The new Adidas logo for 2022 and beyond ditches the Adidas text from the old logo. It is set to be used for all Adidas Performance products from late 2022.
We have been told that Adidas could make changes to the three stripes for the "2022 logo" but now it looks that the Three Stripes of the 1990 logo will remain untouched.
Adidas Neo could be history from 2022
In 2002, Adidas introduced the Adidas Neo logo for lifestyle products, while the well-known Adidas logo with three horizontal stripe was revealed in 2005.
In 2022, Adidas have different logos for the public-listed company and their products. It remains to be seen if Adidas Neo will continue beyond 2022 or if it will be scrapped.
