Why do hockey players only wear half a face visor? Don’t they get hit?
Oh gosh. The helmet controversy. This is a tough one. Back in the day and we mean wayyyy back in the day, hockey players didn’t even wear helmets. Crazy right? Then, finally, somebody gave their head a good shake and said, “I think wearing helmets would be a good idea.”
In certain leagues (including in women’s hockey), and up to a certain age, players are required to wear full-cage helmets. In the pros, however, you have to be at least 18 years old to wear a visor. Wearing a visor gives players more visibility and breathing room, but obviously less protection. Many players don’t even wear visors at all, and it’s not an NHL rule that they have to.
Still, some teams have made it a rule that their players must wear visors, and some teams have made it a rule to wear helmets during warm-ups after a few too many accidents.
Why is hockey so popular in Canada? Why are there so many teams compared to basketball and baseball?
Because hockey is Canada’s sport! Canada invented hockey, is obsessed with hockey and has the climate for it! Canadians are born with ice in their veins. What more do you need to know?

Within 10 years, most NHL goalies adopted a similar style mask and few goalies were without a mask by 1970. In 1974, Andy Brown of the Pittsburgh Penguins was the last to play in the NHL without a mask.
The final eight helmetless NHL players included the likes of Guy Lafleur, Doug Wilson, Rod Langway, Randy Carlyle, Brad Marsh, and finally, Craig MacTavish. By the 1993-94 season, MacTavish was the lone helmetless NHL player, a moniker he'd hold until his retirement in 1997.
However, if not mandated by rule, USA Hockey strongly recommends that all skaters and goalkeeper s in all age classifications properly wear an internal mouthpiece, a HECC approved helmet and a HECC approved full facemask for all games and practices.
Hockey is a great way for kids to stay active and healthy. It helps them develop strength, agility, and endurance while having fun with friends. Hockey also teaches kids how to work together as a team and make strategic decisions on the ice, giving them a sense of accomplishment when they play well together.
Unlike other sports hockey is fast paced and exciting with end to end action. There isn't the delay between plays like other popular sports. The ice also adds an element of speed unlike any other.
