How long does it take to walk through a 13 floors haunted house? ›

To go through the entire haunted house it takes about 40 minutes, and a lot of guts. Even with a tour guide and lights on, I couldn't find my way, but when the show is on, only a few LED lights and fake candles light the way. If your group can't make it through, you're not alone.

People who have experienced McKamey Manor have shared truly horrifying accounts of what has allegedly taken place from near drowning and possibly being buried alive to much worse. McKamey has said someone had a heart attack at McKamey Manor, but that hasn't really been substantiated elsewhere. Most participants at minimum leave with some minor cuts and bruises, though at least one participant allegedly had injuries bad enough for her to be hospitalized.

While the real estate industry has omitted the 13th floor for years for both superstitious and economic reasons — hotel travelers and condo buyers often eschew 13th-level units, lowering their value — the practice has received pushback from municipalities.

Reasons for omitting a thirteenth floor include triskaidekaphobia on the part of the building's owner or builder, or a desire by the building owner or landlord to prevent problems that may arise with superstitious tenants, occupants, or customers.

In fact, some possess a genuine fear of the number 13. It's a real phobia known as triskaidekaphobia. It's so real, in fact, that it is the driving force behind many high-rise buildings skipping the 13th floor altogether, going straight from 12 to 14. Some even skip room numbers with 13.

No costumes, facepaint, prop or handheld items are allowed inside. While outside the haunt, feel free to take photos and grab food and drink at one of our vendors (info below). While inside the haunt, no food, drinks, bottles, recording devices, flash photography, or flashlights are allowed.

The Alabama location allows only guests 21 and older. The tour lasts from eight to ten hours, but no guest has made it all the way through. McKamey originally did not allow safewords for the tour, but has since reportedly allowed them, so guests have the option of ending the tour immediately.
