How to check if your photo is high-resolution - Dravet Syndrome Foundation (2024)

Thank you for submitting your loved one’s photo(s) for use in DSF awareness and marketing materials. In order to guarantee that photos will be high enough resolution for print materials and/or social media, please review the information below.

What are high resolution or hi-res images?

High resolution images are pictures or photos where the media has higher concentrations of pixels or dots. High resolution images offer a superior quality and clarity but come in larger file sizes.

How are hi-res images measured?

There are two ways to measure image resolution:

  • PPI –Pixels Per Inch, this is a measurement for the detail shown on a computer screen or digital image. Anything 300 PPI or over is usually considered to be high resolution.
  • DPI –Dots Per Inch, is a measurement to determine the resolution of an image for printing. High resolution values for DPI are also generally considered to be 300 DPI or over.

What file types can I submit?

Please submit either jpg or png files of over 300 PPI or 300DPI.

How can I check if my photo is hi-res?

On your computer, right-click on the image and then select “Properties.” A window will appear with the image’s details. Go to the “Details” tab to see the image’s dimensions and resolution. Resolution should be at least 300 PPI or 300 DPI to be considered hi-res.

Can I submit a photo from my iPhone?

If emailing a photo directly from your iPhone, always select “actual size” for the highest resolution option.
