A Traeger grill is a big investment and one that should provide you with the best taste a wood-fired flavor can provide. You never want to lose the versatility that allows you to cook hot and fast or low and slow. By keeping your Traeger grill maintained, the expectations you had when you first purchased your grill will be met for many years.
Here are our 5 tips to keep your grill in pristine condition:
1. Recommended items to have on hand with each clean:
- Replacement drip trays or heavy-duty aluminum foil
- Traeger all-purpose cleaner
- Drip replacement buckets
- A non-metallic tool for scraping cooking grates and residue buildup
- Wet/dry vacuum
- Gloves to keep your hands clean
- Paper or cloth towel to wipe away grease/cleaner
2. How often should you clean your grill?
- We recommended cleaning your wood pellet grill once every five grills on average. Your grill should also be cleaned after every extended grill as well (over 8 hours).
3. It will always make your grill easier to fully clean if you use a non-metallic tool to scrape your grates before your grill cools down right after one of your delicious grill recipes.
4. Always start cleaning from top to bottom.
- It is good to start with the smoke stack if your grill has one, then move on to the inside. A nice metal scraper works very well on the inside shell, but when cleaning your grates us a non-metallic tool so you don’t ruin your porcelain-coated grates. Once all residue is scraped off, use a vacuum to remove all the leftover ashes and residue.

- Regular and proper cleaning will keep your grill free from ash and grease.
