The ice skates must have a firm fit without being too tight. Once the laces/buckles are loosened and your foot pushed forward, you should be able to have just enough space for a finger behind your heel. It is also a good idea to try the skates on with the same socks you are intending to use for ice skating.
Remind yourself of how ready you are and why you love to skate. Remain concentrated on your own performance. You can't control how other skaters perform, only yourself. Take one element at a time, and focus on each skill, not the whole program.
The Ultima Mark I Blade features the same blade profile of our Mark II Blade with a less aggressive pick pattern. Constructed from Stainless Steel for longer blade life and easy maintenance, our blades are Factory Sharpened.
Generally speaking, youth and junior figure skates fit a half size down from your regular shoe size, while adult skates generally fit 1.0 size down from your regular shoe size. For example, a woman skater wearing a size 9.0 shoe would select a size 8.0 figure skate.

Wheels: Consider the size and hardness of the wheels. Larger wheels provide more speed, while smaller wheels provide more maneuverability. Harder wheels are faster but provide less traction, while softer wheels provide better grip but are slower.
Main considerations in boot selection are comfort, warmth and durability, so they last from one season to another. The Soft-style and thermal boots are a typical choice for this level, but a basic, classic figure skate is also an excellent choice, and will hold up for many seasons of skating.
Do a little basic math—divide the weight of the boots by your body weight, then multiply the result by 100. This gives you a ratio of the weight of your skates to your body weight. If the ratio is greater than five percent, your boot is too heavy and gives you an increased risk of foot pain and injury.
A quick test for a sharp edge is to hold the skate upside down, place one thumbnail on the edge of the blade and gently pull down and away from the blade on three or four parts of the blade. A good, sharp blade will easily scrape a layer of your thumbnail, leaving the remnants on the blade.
