I took the test in the allotted time to see how I'd do before studying for it and any prep. I went to veritas prep and want to know how credible that site is. I got a 570. I want to get around 650. Is that a possible jump? What can I expect to jump to assuming this site was credible?

A 570 is a good baseline score, and you can certainly hit your target score with proper preparation. However you can get the best assessment of your current standing by taking a GAMT Prep CAT. You can download 2 free CATs from mba.com. Make sure that you take the CAT including the AWA and IR section.

You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:

1. Private tutoring
2. Online courses
3. Book heavy studies

Most of the prep companies including ours offer a free trial of the course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits you. In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides too. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.

You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.

1. When do you plan to take the GMAT?
2. Have you enrolled for any preparatory course/book?
3. When do you plan to apply to B-Shcools?

I plan on doing it by mid march, so two months. I got a princeton review GMAT book. I plan on applying around March 31st.

Hi dloren4,

A 570 is a solid initial CAT score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years). Your score goal is also reasonable, so assuming that you took this CAT under realistic conditions, I would say that you have a good chance to hit that goal. With a mid-March Test Date, you have less than 2 months to study though, so you have to be organized with your work and study consistently. You'll likely find that you'll need to invest in additional resources too.

1) What were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on this CAT?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)?

Most of the test takes take close to 2-3 months to get a satisfactory GMAT score, so time is not an issue.
Since you are following a book heavy approach, I would recommend you to clarify all the doubts from the forums as there would be no one to help you out.

You can also opt for a free trial of the courses. Most of the companies including ours offer one. A course will ensure a better understanding of the concepts and will also ensure a constant help should you face ay problems while studying.

Also, make sure that you follow a study plan for the two months. You can find one here:

I jumped from a 580 on a blind practice to a 750 on test day with about 2 months prep. I took both official practice exams shortly before the exam and scored 740 and 760, so my score on test day was not a fluke. Just learning some very simple strategies about the exam should boost your score a lot on its own, much less actual drilling and reptition.

The post you quoted was made in 2016 so the person may not respond. Might be worth checking success stories on the Share GMAT Experience subforum to see what others have done/used to improve their score. Person below improved their V31 to a V40 on a retake for example.
