Hi Emily!
The first thing we're going to want to do is turn the Kilometers into Meters. We do this by multiplying 12 (total kilometers) by 1000 (there are 1000 meters in 1 kilometer).
12*1000 = 12,000
Next, we'll find out how many meters she runs in a day on the track. We know that she runs 10 laps a day and each lap is 400 meters, so we multiply 400 (meters per lap) * 10 (total laps) which equals 4,000 meters a day.
400*10 = 4,000
She wants to know how many days it will take her to run 12,000 meters (12 Kilometers) and we know that she runs 4,000 meters a day. In order to find the number of days, we'll divide the total meter goal (12,000) by the daily total number of meters (4,000).
12,000 / 4,000 = 3
It will take Kali 3 days to run 12 Kilometers at her daily rate of 4,000 meters!
12(1000) = 12,000 meters
400(10) = 4000 meters/day
12,000/4000 = 3 days
