National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts its yearly entrance exam in PBT (Paper Based Test) mode in February 2023 for various Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs, the NIFT exam pattern for which are also available online. NIFT exam patterns have been released by the Institute for all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. Candidates applying for B.des and M.des will be taking NIFT CAT & GAT exams, followed by a situational test whereas those applying for B.F.Tech and M.F.Tech will only appear for the GAT exam.

NIFT Exam Pattern 2023

The NIFT exam pattern has several rounds. The first round is about the written test and the written test is further divided into two components: The Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

The candidates are required to clear one or both exams as per the need of the selected program. The last round consists of a situation test or group discussion or personal interviews.

Bachelor of Design

The candidates who will pass all the three levels: CAT, GAT, and situational test, will get admission in NIFT for B. Des program.

1. CAT (Creative Ability Test)

  • The CAT exam will carry three questions.
  • The pattern of questions will be subjective and based on the drawing topic.
  • The duration will be 180 minutes
  • The total marks is 100 and there is no negative marking
  • The given weightage is 50% in the admission process.

2. GAT (General Ability Test)

  • The number of questions will be 100
  • The questions are of objective types.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer
  • The total time given is 120 minutes
  • The weightage given is 30% for the admission process

The candidates who are opting for this program, need to give a GAT written test and on that basis, they will be evaluated for further selection.

Master of Design

The candidates need to clear a written test of CAT and GAT and qualified candidates will be selected for the group discussion and personal interview. Those who will clear all the three levels will be part of the M.Des program.
