What is a private page? ›

When you make a post or page private, only Administrators and Editors are able to see that content. Everyone else receives an error. The Administrator user types are the only ones who can activate private pages. Editors don't have this control.

By using SSL encryption, you can establish a secure connection between your website and its users, which encrypts all data transmitted over the internet, making it unreadable to anyone who intercepts it.

People tend to use private browsing to protect their personal data or browsing activity from other users of their devices. Private browsing is also an easy way to log out of websites when using someone else's device – provided you close the browser window at the end of your browsing session.

Besides a robots noindex meta tag, you can hide a page by setting up an HTTP header response with an X-Robots-Tag with a noindex or none value.

Search the Page Source for “WordPress” or “wp-“

If you're comfortable exploring a website's code, you can check the page source for references to “WordPress” or “wp-“. To do this, right-click on the webpage, select “View Page Source” (or similar, depending on your browser), and search for these keywords.

Logging into a WordPress.com account ensures that only those people you've authorized can view your site. A visitor can request access to a private site by clicking on the “request access” link when attempting to visit a private site while logged into their WordPress.com account.

All the content you share on your self-hosted site is owned by you, as well as all the rights. This means WordPress cannot reshare your content anywhere.

You can use Facebook's Privacy menu to limit who can see your posts, profile, and more. Setting every option to "Only Me" will make your Facebook profile completely private. You can also set up reminders to update your privacy settings using the Privacy Checkup tool.

Public: anyone on or off Facebook can see who's in the group and what they post. Private: only members can see who's in the group and what they post.

Private sites are only viewable by you, public sites are listed publicly in your profile, and published sites are viewable when visiting their URL.

If you just want it for friends and family, private is ok. If you are looking to gain more followers and allow others to see what you post, make it public.
