Throughout NHL history, a number of stars have shared the same jersey number. The trait continues among today's best players, such as Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin and St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko(pictured above).

In most cases, there is one clear standout among those sharing a number. In a few others, however, there are two or more who bring considerable star power to their respective jersey numerals. Several numbers are shared by a mix of long-time stars and rising talents, while others are worn by top talents in their playing primes.

Here's a ranking of the current NHL jersey numbers with the most star power, noting the accomplishments of the players sharing those numbers and selecting the best of the bunch. Rookies were not included as they've yet to establish themselves as NHL stars. As always, feel free to weigh in with your opinion in the comments section below.

No. 6:Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson, Ottawa Senators right wing Bobby Ryan and Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber (pictured above) are the notables sharing this number. Weber is the biggest star in this bunch. If Ryan were still scoring at his previous 30-goal pace, this group could've cracked the top 10.

No. 17:Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Kesler, Los Angeles Kings left wing Milan Lucic and St. Louis Blues left wing Jaden Schwartz are the top stars sporting this number. Kesler's best seasons came earlier in this decade, while Lucic's production has recently declined.

No. 23:Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Calgary Flames center Sean Monahan are the best players wearing No. 23. Ekman-Larsson and Monahan are rising stars. In a few years, they could carry this number into the top 10.

No. 27:There is lots of young talent at No. 27, such as Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk, Montreal Canadiens center Alex Galchenyuk, New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh and St. Louis Blues rearguard Alex Pietrangelo. They're all 26 or younger, so we've yet to see the best from this group.

No. 29:Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and Minnesota Wild right wing Jason Pominville top the list of those wearing this number. MacKinnon has yet to reach his full potential andFleury's at his peak, but Pominville is entering the downside of his career.

No. 35:It's all goaltenders at No. 35, including the Detroit Red Wings' Jimmy Howard, the Philadelphia Flyers' Steve Mason, the Nashville Predators' Pekka Rinne and New Jersey Devils' Cory Schneider. Rinne and Schneider are on the cusp of NHL greatness, while Howard and Mason have battled injury and inconsistency.

No. 77:Los Angeles Kings center Jeff Carter, Tampa Bay Lightning defensem*n Victor Hedman and Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie are currently the NHL's best at No. 77. They're excellent players but have yet to achieve full NHL superstardom.

No. 93:Detroit Red Wings winger Johan Franzen, Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Philadelphia Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek and defenseman Keith Yandle are the notables. Voracek has established himself among the league's leading scorers, and Nugent-Hopkins is a rising star. Franzen and Yandle are good players but lack sufficient star power to push this group into the top 10.

Best of the bunch: Koivu's 11-season NHL career gives him the advantage over duch*ene, Forsberg and Johnson. In the coming years, however, they could go on to eclipse Koivu's achievements.

Best of the bunch: Zetterberg is among the NHL's most respected two-way players and leaders. In recent years, the Wings have been transitioning toward a younger roster, but the 35-year-old Zetterberg remains among their top players. He is still one of their most recognized stars.

Best of the bunch: Miller and Ward have declined in recent years, but Lundqvist remains among the league's elite goaltenders. Their championship aspirations for this season still rest with Lundqvist.

4. Jersey No. 33: Byfuglien, Chara and Sedin

8 of 11

    Elise Amendola/Associated Press

The stars: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Vancouver Canucks center Henrik Sedin are the notable NHL stars wearing No. 33.

Accomplishments: Byfuglien is a hard-hitting, hard-shooting defenseman. Since 2010-11, he's scored 20 goals twice and exceeded the 50-point mark three times. Byfuglien also won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

Chara won the James Norris Trophy in 2009 and was a finalist in 2004, 2008 and 2014. He has been named to the First All-Star Team three times (2004, 2009 and 2011) and captained the Bruins to a Stanley Cup championship in 2011.

Best of the bunch: This one comes down to Chara and Sedin, and it's the big Bruins blueliner who gets the nod. Not to diminish Sedin's achievements, but Chara's been one of the most dominant players at his position for years. Few can match his all-round skills and intimidating physical presence.

3. Jersey No. 8: Doughty, Ovechkin and Pavelski

Ovechkin is also also a former winner of the Art Ross Trophy (2007-08) and the Calder Memorial Trophy (2005-06).

Best of the bunch: Doughty and Pavelski are stars in their own right, but Ovechkin truly is the Great Eight. Indeed, he's the greatest player to wear that number in NHL history. With six 50-goal seasons, Ovechkin is just three shy of tying the recordheld by Hall of Famers Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy.

2. Jersey No. 19: Backstrom, Doan, Thornton and Toews

Doan is among the most well-respected right wings in the league. He has 12 seasons with 20-plus goals and 11 with 50-plus points. He's been captain of the Coyotes since 2003.

Thornton captained the Sharks from 2010 to 2014. He's collected over 1,265 points in his 19-year NHL career, winning the Art Ross and Hart Trophies in 2006.

Toews has captained his Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup titles, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010 and the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2013. He's also reached the 60-point mark five times.

Best of the bunch: Toews gets the nod over a very deep pool of talent. Nicknamed Captain Serious by his teammates, he's the consummate two-way center and leader. Toews is arguably the biggest reason the Blackhawks are considered a modern-day NHL dynasty.

1. Jersey No. 91: Seguin, Stamkos, Tavares and Tarasenko

11 of 11

    Bruce Bennett/Getty Images

The stars: Dallas Stars winger Tyler Seguin, Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos, New York Islanders center John Tavares and St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko are the notable NHL stars wearing No. 91.

    Accomplishments:
Since joining the Stars in 2013 in a trade with the Boston Bruins,Seguinhas blossomed into one of the NHL's top scorers. He's averaged over a point per game with the Stars.

Best of the bunch: Without a doubt, this is the deepest crop of talent currently sharing the same jersey number in the NHL. Stamkos' list of achievements, which includes captaining the Lightning to the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, gives him a slight edge over Tavares, while Seguin and Tarasenko are clearly stars in ascent. It will be entertaining to see who ultimately becomes the biggest star to have worn No. 91.
