Snapshot rewards you for good driving

Progressive's Snapshot program personalizes your car insurance rate based on your actual driving. It's technically called usage-based insurance. That means you pay based on how and how much you drive instead of just traditional factors. In most states, you get an automatic discount just for participating and a personalized rate at renewal depending on your results. While your rate could increase with high-risk driving, most drivers save with Snapshot. In fact, drivers who save with Snapshot save an average of $156 a year.*

Welcome to Snapshot! The program that gives you a chance to lower your rate based on how you drive, how much you drive, and when. Let's see how you can get big discounts behind the wheel.

We get it. Sometimes you have no choice but to brake hard or accelerate quickly. Don't worry; a few of these won't affect your rate significantly.

As much as you can, avoid driving between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. on weekends when the roads can be more dangerous. This isn't always easy, but the less you drive, the more you can save. If time on the road isn't something you can control, then how safe you drive counts for a lot.

And remember...avoid texts, calls, or other handheld phone activity when you're behind the wheel.

Your Snapshot progress is easy to follow. You'll get regular email updates. And you can always check progress, trip logs, and more on your phone or by logging into your account at progressive.com.

Once Snapshot collects your driving information you'll see a new personalized rate when your policy renews! That's Snapshot. Turning good driving into big savings. Let's go!

FAQs

How does snapshot know if I'm the driver? ›

How does the Snapshot app with Road Test know if I am driving? The app can tell when you're driving based on your speed and the distance you're traveling. It can also tell when you're the driver rather than a passenger. It's entirely automatic, so you can hop in your car without a second thought.

Can snapshot tell if you're speeding? ›

Using your mobile phone: If you are using the mobile app, Snapshot can determine when you have been texting or making phone calls. Avoid these activities to remain safe and help increase your discount. Speeding: Driving above the posted speed limit will be noted by Snapshot.

Should I get snapshot if I drive fast? ›

If you're a safe driver, it's definitely worth trying Snapshot to see how much money you could save. For those who engage in riskier driving behaviors such as fast acceleration, hard braking and phone use behind the wheel, Snapshot could raise your rates.

Drive less aggressively – Don't have a lead foot on your gas or slam your breaks, keep a safe following distance from other cars, and drive the speed limit. Don't drive between the hours of 12-4 AM – These hours are considered to be higher risk driving hours and Snapshot will ding you for driving during them.

Racking up more miles is the easiest, controllable factor to beat the system. The hard brake-to-mile ratio is really what they're looking for when determining the discount for your policy. In other words, you can either adjust your braking behavior, or you can add more miles to the data to win with the law of averages.

How long should you keep a snapshot? ›

Do not use a single snapshot for more than 72 hours. The snapshot file continues to grow in size when it is retained for a longer period. This can cause the snapshot storage location to run out of space and impact the system performance.

How long does Progressive snapshot last? ›
