Stitch Count to Inches (2024)

Determining the size of your finished project is as simple as dividingthe Stitch Count of the design by the Thread Count of your fabric. Ifthe width of the design is 44 threads, using 11 count Aida will resultin a finished width of 4 inches.

44 ÷ 11 equals 4

Thesame design will be about 3-1/8 inches wide using 14 count Aida. If youfind the perfect design, but it is the wrong size for your purposes, just use fabric with a thread count that will give you what you want.

Use this handy table to work out the details. Or, for those times when you must work on the fly, just remember:

Design Stitch Count ÷ Fabric Thread Count = Finished Size

Justcalculate the width and the length. The following table shows theapproximate finished measurement in inches, rounded to the nearesteighth of an inch. Be sure to add enough to the length and width of yourfabric for display purposes. It's easier to trim too much than to workwith too little.
