The Oldest NBA Player To Score 50 In A Game: Jamal Crawford (2024)

The 2021-2022 NBA season has given us a variety of different highlights already, and there are still games to be played.

NBA fans have recently witnessed Karl-Anthony Towns and Kyrie Irving score 60 points. They've watched DeMar DeRozan become the first player in NBA history to hit buzzer-beating game-winners on consecutive nights.

NBA fans not only witnessed the 75 greatest players together at the All-Star Game, but they were also lucky to see Stephen Curry make a record 16 three-pointers in the All-Star Game!

Even with all these great plays and achievements, the most talked about recently is that of LeBron James. He recently scored 50 points or more, twice, in about a week.

LeBron became the oldest player (37 years and 71 days on the second 50 point game) to score 50 or more points twice in one season.

This is a great accomplishment, but have you ever stopped to wonder who is the oldest NBA player to ever score at least 50 in a game?

Jamal Crawford

There have been many great scorers in the game, from Michael Jordan to Wilt Chamberlain, to LeBron James, who is closing in on the all-time scoring record.

A name that doesn't get brought up, but his name should be when talking about great scorers in NBA history is Jamal Crawford.

Crawford was primarily a sixth man in his career, and the dude could flat out score the rock.

He had a smooth jump shot and a crossover that'll have you using crutches the next day.

Yeah, he was that good. Crawford was one of those players you wanted to come off your bench to help guide the second unit.

Crawford was so good off the bench that he won three NBA Sixth Man of the Year awards. This has him tied for the most with Lou Williams.

The main reason Crawford won all those Sixth Man of the Year awards was because of his incredible scoring ability.

Crawford Makes History

The date was April 9th, 2019. The Phoenix Suns were playing the Dallas Mavericks in the final game of the 2018-2019 season.

Crawford would come off the bench in this game to set two NBA records. He scored 51 points in the game on 18-30 shooting and 7-13 from three.

Crawford's 51 points became the record for the most points scored by a sixth man in an NBA game. This broke the Orlando Magic's Nick Anderson's record of 50 back in 1993.

This incredible record became even more legendary when you discovered, at age 39 years and 20 days, Crawford became the oldest player to eclipse the 50 point mark in NBA history.

Crawford broke Michael Jordan's record. Jordan scored 51 during the 2001-2002 season at the age of 38 years and 315 days.

The craziest thing about Crawford's history-making performance is the Suns lost to the Mavericks, 120-109.

Despite the loss, Crawford ended his season on a great note. The problem after this great game is Crawford has only played one game since, in the 2019-2020 season for the Brooklyn Nets.

Jamal Crawford may be 41 today, but for NBA fans around the world, we'd love to see him suit up again, and I can bet his scoring off the bench could help plenty of struggling teams, right now.
