After the Elijah-focused episode last week,The Originals shifted its focus back to Klaus, Hope and the search for Hayley. In New Orleans, Klaus is willing to do whatever it takes to find Hayley no matter the cost. And in Mystic Falls, Hope spends some time with Freya to work out some teenage witch issues.
For seven years, New Orleans was a peaceful, happy place again. In just a few days of being back Klaus has ended all of that and the supernatural factions are back on the brink of war. But, Klaus did learn it was the vampires who took Hayley. So, worth it?
It all starts with Klaus threatening Vincent, the witches, the werewolves and the vampires that if Hayley is not returned to him by sundown, he will start killing a lot of people. Vincent and the other supernatural factions all tell Klaus the same thing: They all liked Hayley and had nothing to do with her disappearance.
What they don’t know is Klaus is channeling all of the grief he feels from his conversation with Elijah last week into finding Hayley. So, the only outcome Klaus will except is Hayley coming home safely. He has even compelled the entire police department to work on this case.
After Marcel and Klaus get a note sending them to an abandoned house where Hayley was being kept tied up because she is a crossbreed like Klaus, Marcel and Hope as well, Klaus decides to change his tactics.
He decides to hold Josh, a werewolf not seen before the episode, and witch not here seen onThe Originals, hostage. The goal is that this will be incentive for one of the factions to reveal where Hayley is. Instead, it is just the start of Klaus pissing off all of New Orleans.
Marcel is willing to play along for now, but this move activates Vincent’s most well defined character trait, hating the Mikaelson. He starts by giving a version of why Klaus is horrible speech to Ivy. Her response is to suggest that they consult the cards to see if Klaus has gone off the deep end.
At first, Klaus is on the right track, but then the cards reveal he has gone down a dangerous path. A box containing Hayley’s crescent tattoo, skin and all, has been sent to Klaus. In response, Klaus wants to kill the hostages. Marcel tries to talk him down, realizing that a lot of his behavior must be tied to whatever happened with Elijah in France.
Marcel is filled in on Elijah knowing who he is, but choosing to turn his back on the family. Marcel offers to take on the Elijah role of keeping Klaus from doing the crazy thing. After all, Marcel is family as well. He has been there for Hope if she needed anything over the past seven years, and he is determined to find Hayley. Instead, Marcel just gets his neck snapped.
Klaus then kills the witch and the werewolf, Josh gets to live because he is an establishedTheOriginals character. A pissed off Vincent soon arrives to punish Klaus and Marcel helps to chain Klaus up in a coffin. He is asked if alienating the city was worth it, which Klaus thinks it as he figured out it must have been the vampires who took Hayley. They have never really accepted hybrids.
This answer is enough for Marcel to free Klaus. They decide that must work together to bring the vampire faction in line. There are new rules that all of the other vampires hate. Chief among them, no more daylight rings. And the punishment for crossing Klaus or Marcel is death.
Klaus decides it would be a good idea to ask Vincent for help at the funeral for the witch he just killed. Vincent gives a him a version of the I was a fool for trusting you and will never help you again speech. Vincent also vows to start a war with Klaus if he does anything else to hurt New Orleans. The werewolves also want Klaus to pay killing one of their own.
An angry Klaus returns home and smashes the box with Hayley’s skin in it.A coin roles out and Klaus recognizes it as belonging to an old enemy. A group of vampires that has ties to the Nazis.
Elsewhere in this week’s episode ofTheOriginals,Freya goes to Mystic Falls to have a chat with her niece. Hope does not want her aunt to stay as she is working on some ancient spells. Eventually, after bonding over watching Roman play soccer, Hope agrees to let Freya stay and help her.
They go to a part of the school that Lizzie and Josie found that they use for parties. The perfect place for Freya to fill Hope in on the fact that Hope may lead to the destruction of New Orleans. What else are they going to do because there is nothing they can do to find Hayley that the New Orleans witches haven’t already tried.

As a first born Mikaelson witch, Hope must learn how to control her powers and emotions. Otherwise, if something goes wrong, Hope could easily burn down a city. Or her aunt to start.
This incident of nearly setting Freya on fire convinces Hope that she should focus of controlling her magic. And spending more time with Roman (even though he is probably totally connected to the vampires who took Hayley). Freya and Klaus will worry about finding Hayley.
