The Process of Detoxing With Epsom Salt (2024)

By Brandi Swieter

Salt is made from sodium, while epsom salt is made from magnesium and sulfate. The latter has properties that help to heal the body from various ailments and draw out toxins within the body. It allows for a home detoxification process that is affordable and easy to manage. It just takes learning how to do it correctly to ensure beneficial results.

Purchase the Necessary Ingredients

The first step of the process is to purchase the ingredients used to create the detox bath. Some people simply buy a container of epsom salt and soak themselves in hot water along with two cups of the compound. Others get an extra ingredient or two to make the bath more relaxing. Lavender oil, for example, has a calming effect that can be great for detoxing.

Fill the Tub With Hot Water

The bath tub should be filled with the hottest water a person can stand. Cold or even warm water won’t have the same impact as hot water does. Hotter water helps to open up the pores. The detox bath will then draw out the dirt and toxins from the skin and provide great results.

Add Ingredients

Once the tub is filled, it’s time to add in the ingredients. Simply pour them in, as there is no need to mix anything. Everything will dissolve and work as intended after it has time to sit. Give it just a minute or two before stepping in.

Soak for at Least 20 Minutes

If possible, people trying the detox should get into the tub and lie in the water so the entire body is covered from the neck down. Those with a smaller tub may only be able to have the lower half of their bodies covered. This is fine, however it may not produce the same results. A foot detox soak is also possible. It’s important to spend at least 20 minutes in the water to allow the ingredients to work, though some prefer to stay in closer to 40 minutes.

Get Out Slowly

No one should get up out of a detox bath quickly. Getting out should be done slowly. The body will feel drained and people may even get lightheaded. Rinse off with some cool water to close the pores.

Drink Water After

It’s important to drink plenty of water after a detox. It will ensure the liver is able to flush out any remaining toxins for a truly clean and healthy body inside and out. Continue drinking water regularly for added benefits.

Anyone hoping to put their bodies through a detox to draw out toxins and experience some health benefits should start with epsom salts. Add some other ingredients, such as baking soda and lavender oil, for a true detoxification process that leaves the mind relaxed and the body healthy. Follow the bath with a visit to The Joint Chiropractic and experience a truly beneficial health routine.
