With his retirement, Tom Brady took away another NFL record that, while not official, was one he had held for years: that of being the oldest player in the league. Brady retired at 45 and a half years old, so now that he's gone, that spot goes to another offensive player, currently playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas may not have him much longer
The position of the oldest player in the NFL currently goes to Cowboys offensive tackle Jason Peters, who just turned 41 on Jan. 22. Peters is one of three players to surpass four decades of age, and during the season he played in 10 games for Dallas, although he missed several others due to a chest injury.
Peters became one of the best players at his position when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles, but in the past two seasons, when it came time for free agency, he was not available to sign with another team until after the training camp cycle ended.
Peters came to the NFL in 2004 with the Buffalo Bills, but his longest stay was in Philly, where he played 11 years. Before coming to the Cowboys he spent one year with the Chicago Bears.
Who are the other two oldest players in the NFL?
In addition to Peters, there are a couple of other players who are over 40: one is Arizona Cardinals kicker Andy Lee, who turns 41 in August.
The other is San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould, who turned 40 in December. Gould becomes a free agent, but has said his intention is to keep playing.
"I'm nowhere near retirement. I have a lot of things left to do from a career standpoint, the first being win a Super Bowl. And, two, I'm pretty close to a lot of milestones that I think would be pretty cool to be able to accomplish," he told CBS in December.
