Walter Payton was drafted out of Jackson State in the 1st round of the 1975 Draft by the Chicago Bears.

Payton found success early in his career. In just his third season, he led the league in rushing yards with 1,852 - third most in NFL history at that time.

In all during his 13-year NFL career, Payton rushed for over 1,000 yards in 10 different seasons.

On Oct. 7, 1984 against the New Orleans Saints, Payton reached the pinnacle of his career when he surpassed Jim Brown as the NFL's all-time leading rusher.
