What is the origin of the phrase 'Sick as a chip'?
Nicole Woodward, Newcastle, UK
- Never having heard it before, I can only assume the origin is you.
Phil Cohen, Sydney, Australia
- I have heard this line before, but its origin I cannot help you with. If I were to guess, I'd say it's probably from London and is relatively recent. I'll take a stab at the nineteen-eighties.
Daniel Lillford, Bridgetown. Nova Scotia, Canada
- I don't know the origins of 'sick as a chip' but I can tell you it's very commonly used in the north east of England.
ted gurski, Stockton on Tees England
- It is used widely in Newcastle in England and the north east in general. I didn't believe it either when I heard my wife say it (a geordie) but its true yet to find out why .. it means "fed up"
brian lawson, Hamilton UK

Scarlet, London UK
