What Is the Texas Rangers’ Mascot? What Is a Peagle? - EssentiallySports (2024)

The Texas Rangers have made impossible things possible this season. The team achieved a feat that they couldn’t reach for over a decade. Since their last World Series defeat against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011, the Rangers never appeared for the World Series fight before 2023. What is more astonishing is that they have taken down one of the strongest teams of the season, with 90 wins in the regular season, the Houston Astros, in the ALCS. This makes one wonder about the Rangers’ mascot, which is the face of the team.

Mascots are believed to be the lucky charm of a team or organization, representing the specific teams. Almost every MLB team has their Mascots, including the Rangers. While the Rangers Captain has been there as the official mascot of the team since 2002, the team has introduced a new logo recently in 2023.

Earlier this season, in April, the team debuted their new Nike City Connect uniforms against Oakland Athletics at Globe Life Field. The color and design of the new jerseys are eye-catching enough, but the team didn’t stop there. They took things further with the creation of a new mascot named “The Peagle.”

The Peagle is a combination of the logos of the Fort Worth Panthers and The Dallas Eagles, originally known as the Panthers. Moreover, the combination looks like a Griffin-like mythical creature that gives the jersey an attractive look.

This newly created mascot is located on the right sleeves of the jerseys, but fans can also find it on the merchandise available online and at the team store. These City Connect jerseys are to pay tribute to the Dallas-Fort Worth baseball history and tradition. The Panthers won six consecutive Texas League titles in the 1920s. According to some sources, the left side “speed red” part signifies the Fort Worth Panthers’ 1920 championship medal. However, the Peagle is not replacing the cute palomino-style horse mascot of the team.

Though teams rarely prefer to change the logo or mascot, the MLB world has once witnessed a vehement protest that forced the Cleaveland Guardians to change their mascot and logo.

Cleaveland Guardians’ (Indians) Chief Wahoo Removal

The Cleaveland Guardians, formerly the Cleveland Indians, had a logo called Chief Wahoo that featured a cartoonish Native American. They even used to consider it as their mascot. However, they have faced severe protests against it for a few years, and finally, they agreed to remove it from everywhere in 2018. Later, in 2020, the team even removed the ‘Indians’ from their name and replaced it with Guardians.
