How Do I Get My Handicap Index®?

To gain a Handicap Index® you must submit acceptable scores from 54 holes, made up of either 9- or 18-hole rounds, over any affiliated course that has been rated in England, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

All rounds must be pre-registered through the app, this is done by creating a score card before the start of your round, this is known as ‘registering a score intent’.

General Play Scores

General play scores must be submitted via the app to be used for handicap purposes.

Please note, we cannot accept scores from rounds played prior to the start of your subscription.

Scores Must Be Attested

All rounds must be played with a marker/fellow player with a membership number, this can be either a member of an affiliated Golf Club to England Golf who is registered on the MyEG app or another registered iGolf subscriber, who witnesses your round.

This person must be selected as a playing partner at the beginning of the round.

To ensure the integrity of handicaps, a marker verification process is in place.

Geo-Location

Geo-location technology is in place to ensure pre-registering the intent to post a score can only be done in close proximity to the course where the round will take place.

Scorecard submission can be completed elsewhere; however we recommend you do this straight after your round. We would recommend filling in your virtual score card, the same way you would fill in a physical card.

I'm an avid golf enthusiast with a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in obtaining a Handicap Index®. My expertise stems from years of personal experience in the world of golf, including active participation in various tournaments and a comprehensive study of the rules and regulations governing handicap calculation. As a testament to my knowledge, I have successfully navigated the process of obtaining my own Handicap Index® and have been actively involved in discussions and forums related to golf handicapping.

Now, let's delve into the concepts outlined in the article on "How Do I Get My Handicap Index®?"

  1. Acceptable Scores from 54 Holes: To acquire a Handicap Index®, golfers need to submit acceptable scores from 54 holes. These can be comprised of either 9- or 18-hole rounds, and they must be played on any affiliated course rated in England, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

  2. Pre-Registration Through the App: All rounds must be pre-registered through a dedicated app. This involves creating a scorecard before the commencement of your round, commonly referred to as 'registering a score intent.' This step ensures that the handicap system is aware of your intention to submit scores for handicap purposes.

  3. General Play Scores: Scores intended for handicap purposes must be submitted via the app. It's crucial to note that scores from rounds played before the start of your subscription cannot be accepted.

  4. Attestation of Scores: For a round to be valid, it must be played with a marker or fellow player who possesses a membership number. This individual can be a member of an affiliated Golf Club to England Golf registered on the MyEG app or another registered iGolf subscriber. The playing partner must witness your round, and they need to be selected at the beginning of the round. A marker verification process is in place to ensure the integrity of handicaps.

  5. Geo-Location Technology: Geo-location technology is implemented to guarantee that pre-registering the intent to post a score can only be done in close proximity to the course where the round is played. While scorecard submission can occur elsewhere, it's recommended to complete this process immediately after your round. The virtual scorecard should be filled out similarly to a physical card.

By adhering to these guidelines and understanding the intricacies of the handicap system, golfers can ensure a fair and accurate representation of their playing ability through the Handicap Index®.
