Are glass seats good at hockey games?
Most veteran hockey viewers understand that just above the glass seats provide the best of both worlds where they can take in details and the speed of the game without getting obstructed views that can happen with the glass.
The best seats at a hockey game are halfway up the lower bowl at either end of the neutral zone. These seats allow you to see all the action without missing a moment. The worst place to sit at a hockey game would definitely be behind the net at any level.
Lower Level | Premium | Value |
---|---|---|
Glass | $572 | $475 |
Gold Center Ice | $165 | $155 |
Gold Prime | $158 | $145 |
Gold | $121 | $115 |
This actually happened in the NHL back in December when a fan at an Avs game banged on the glass next to the Oilers' penalty box. The reason why an item like a ring easily shatters glass is because glass that is tempered or toughened is considered to be a state of stress.
Have you ever been to a hockey game and wondered how the glass boards lining the rink withstood the constant impact of players and pucks slamming into them? Certainly, regular glass would shatter but the transparent material is different—it's made of tempered glass.
It's going to be cooler the closer to the ice you are. Generally speaking, the ice will be about 25° and the air, for an inside game, will be somewhere between 50 and 60°. That's not bad considering outdoor games must be played in freezing or below-freezing temperatures.
What do I dress to go watch a hockey game? If you are going to watch a professional game, the temperatures are quite pleasant at about 65F (18C) so a sweater or light jacket is required. However, games at a local recreational arena are cooler at 55C (12C) or less and require a heavy jacket, gloves and ski hat/toque.
The average price is $2,197.
The Stanley Cup Final starts this week. Game 1. According to TicketSmarter, Final tickets cost an average of $1,531 for games at Tampa's Amalie Arena and $2,325 for Denver's Ball Arena.
That's thanks to the Panthers having the league's lowest average non-premium ticket price ($41.79). They've had the cheapest average ticket cost for nine seasons.
When did NHL stop using glass?
While it's commonly called glass, it's really actually made of acrylic or some other durable substance. Various iterations of glass have been used in the NHL, and in the late 1990s the league went to a “seamless” system that in theory helped fans see the game better.
Although plexiglass will eventually break from time to time, it's strong enough to withstand hundreds of slap shots at speeds of 100mph. Whereas regular seamless tempered glass would break far more often.
1. Plexiglass was first put around the ice rink after a 1979 brawl between the players and fans.
Arena Facts
The arena bleachers seat approximately 750 spectators. The glass that surrounds the dasher boards is tempered glass. Each sheet of glass is four feet by six feet, which makes the pane weigh approximately 170 pounds.
The first few layers are painted with the hockey markings and the advertisem*nts that you see on (or more correctly "in") the ice. These layers are then covered with 8 to 10 more thin layers of ice. When complete, the ice is only one inch thick!
Personally I prefer the corner sections over those behind the net as they provide a unique angle where you can appreciate the goal to goal rushes, as well as the intricate cross ice passing plays.
While lower level side seating for a concert is usually one of the best ways to see the show, these seats aren't as good at the Forum as they are at other venues. There are two main issues with these sections.
Club Seats are equipped with cup holders and invite fans to enjoy the game in comfort. Premium Seating Host Service is available to ensure your satisfaction for all games, concerts, family shows, and other scheduled events.
Players sit on benches along one side of the boards, with penalty boxes on the other side. The centre-ice line divides the rink in half. The bluelines delineate each team's defensive zone. The area between the bluelines is called the neutral zone.
