What makes cast further?
A longer rod will give you a longer cast. It's really that simple. If power and action are the same, generally speaking, a 7-foot rod will cast the same lure farther than a 6-foot rod. Now if the lure is light, like 1/8 ounce, it can be a little more managable on a softer shorter rod than a longer rod.
25-30 yards is the norm
Most anglers proficient at casting average 25-30 yards, depending on their tackle and wind conditions.
Yes. The reel size affects the casting distance because the larger the reel, the longer the coils it releases during the cast, which results in more line coming out of the spool in the same amount of time.
Certainly the most obvious metric, length is the distance the rod covers from tip to butt. A rod's length affects casting distance, accuracy, and hook set leverage. Longer rods (over 7 feet) will cast farther than shorter rods of the same power and action, and shorter (<under 7 feet) rods will be more accurate.
The casting weight:
This includes your lure/bait and sinker. In general, the more weight you throw, the greater the casting distance. However, too much weight can also prevent you from generating enough power during the load. So it's all about finding a sweet spot here.
Braid proved to be the better choice compared to traditional monofilament line in terms of casting distance for both experiments. The first test with a heavier weight showed a 7% advantage to the braid. And the updated test with wet lines that were both newly spooled showed a whopping 30% advantage for the braid.
Thin diameter line is great for spinning reels, but if you're using baitcasting reels, you don't want to use anything under 20 lb. braid. If the line is really thin, it'll dig into the spool if you have a big fish on or get snagged, which can cause knots and tangles.
Re: Baitcaster vs Spinning casting distance
In the hands of a capable fisherman a baitcaster will win in this situation due to the high diameter of the line causing a lot of drag in the spinning rods guides when it uncoils off the spool and through the first guide.
Fishing in the wind can cause baitcasters to backlash even when your reel's brakes and spool tension are tightened down. The best way to avoid backlashes in this situation is to cast across or with the wind. If you have to cast into the wind, make short and low pitches close to the water.
After testing it out for myself, braided line does cast further than both mono and fluoro. Using braid gave us around 10 more yards of casting distance because the line is thinner and it has less memory in it.
What is a 1000 size reel good for?
1000 to 3000. Small reels are designed to be fished inshore. They can be fished in the fresh or saltwater in rivers, estuaries, creeks, dams, harbors, docks, and jetties. They suit light fishing rods 6 to 9 feet.
In a nutshell, you will be able to cast 50-70 yards on a good day using a surf rod. That being said, you generally need less than that to catch fish in the surf.

Fishing rod type | Length range | Most commonly used length |
---|---|---|
Baitcasting rod | 5'5" to 9' | 6'5" to 8' |
Fly fishing rod | 6' to 10' | 7' to 9' |
Surf casting rod | 9' to 14' | 10' to 12' |
Boat rod | 5' to 7' | 6' to 6'6" |
Medium or medium-heavy action rods are often a great choice for lures with treble hooks or for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and bladed jigs that are fished fast and generate “reaction” strikes.
1) 7' Medium Light Spinning Rod: You can use this rod for dropshot, split shot, tubes, worms, even poppers and other very small hardbaits. This is going to be your most frequently used rod when you're getting started. Its also the rod that you'll still have in your rod locker as a back up 20 years later.

Their common conclusion is that few casters can cast a full WF line. With a shooting head a casting distance of 30 meters/100 feet or more is decent. Most fish are caught closer than 15-20 meters or 50 feet and then some.
Using braided line rather than monofilament line will dramatically increase the distance that you can cast. Typically 20lb breaking strain braided fishing line will have an average diameter of .
How far can you cast an 8 foot rod?
In a nutshell, you will be able to cast 50-70 yards on a good day using a surf rod. That being said, you generally need less than that to catch fish in the surf.
A short (6 feet or less) rod is ideal if you want to make short, accurate casts. When pinpoint accuracy is less critical, a long rod (over 7 feet) is the way to go. Dingy or dirty water and heavy cover are two situations where short-range accuracy is part of the recipe for success, and a shorter rod can really shine.
In most scenarios, stepping into your cast should be fine, but when fishing at a very long range, you need to really push into your casts by striding forward as you angle the rod which will propel the rig just that little bit further.

Braid is the best line for baitcaster because it has virtually zero memory. Hold it up, and you'll notice that it's very soft and malleable (so to speak) and doesn't hold a particular shape.
Fast action rods are more sensitive while medium and slower action rods cast farther. Length: Longer spinning rods cast farther. Shorter rods are more accurate.
Casting distance, fluoro is way behind the other two for me while mono casts better than braid when comparing similar diameters, although you're usually getting 4x the breaking strength from the braid, so it's pretty easy to go down a size or two to gain extra distance.
We don't normally ask a 5-weight to cast 70 feet and beyond, but the best Power Rods, with an expert caster at the controls, can easily cast all the line – 90 to one 100 feet. But this also requires an angler to double-haul well and form good, tight back cast loops.
Before you cast, you must pull line off the reel. If you want to cast 40 feet, you must pull 40 feet of line off the reel. Stretch the line one arm-length at a time to straighten it. After you thread the line through the guides you'll have 40 feet of loosely coiled line lying on the ground (or in the water) nearby.
