Is snow colder or ice?
In general, snowstorms are colder than ice storms. An ice storm is characterized by a fall of freezing rain and the resultant accumulation of glaze on the ground and on exposed objects.
The snowflakes retain their flakiness and fall as snow if the air temperature is colder than freezing all the way from the cloud to the ground. Snow forms when the atmospheric temperature is at or below freezing (0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and there is a minimum amount of moisture in the air.

The findings, published today in Nature, confirm the existence of “superionic ice,” a new phase of water with bizarre properties. Unlike the familiar ice found in your freezer or at the north pole, superionic ice is black and hot. A cube of it would weigh four times as much as a normal one.

How cold can ice get?

If you are going to eat it try to make sure it is fresh—and of course avoid the yellow stuff. Also, if you will be outside in the cold for a long time, try not to eat a lot of snow.

Known as the “Dry Valleys,” the region is one of the driest places on Earth and hasn't seen rainfall for an estimated 2 million years.
It turns out that you don't need temperatures below freezing for snow to fall. In fact, snow can fall at temperatures as high as 50 degrees. Most residents of the northern United States have probably seen 40-degree snowfalls before, but snow at temperatures greater than 45 degrees is hard to come by.
Freshly melted snow is generally considered to be safe to drink without further treatment, however it should not be assumed that because water is frozen that it is safe to drink. Exercise the same caution for melted Ice as you would for standing water, and if in doubt boil the water for 10 minutes.
