Should I get 2 or 3 goalies fantasy hockey?
Drafting three goalies is the safest bet, but don't wait until the end to grab three. One bad starter and two backups won't do the trick. Your fantasy team needs at least two starters. Backups may provide your team with quality starts and boost stats a bit, but they may not even play each week.
Understand the importance of goaltending
Goaltending is usually a very significant position in any fantasy hockey league. Wins and sometimes save percentage often hold great value in fantasy, so be sure to select an elite starting goaltender who plays often and delivers quality stats.
- Andrei Vasilevskiy, TBL.
- Igor Shesterkin, NYR.
- Frederik Andersen, CAR (INJ.)
- Ilya Sorokin, NYI.
- Juuse Saros, NSH (INJ.)
- Jack Campbell, EDM.
- Jake Oettinger, DAL.
- Thatcher Demko, VAN (INJ.)
Most often, teams are made up of nine forwards, six defensem*n, one utility player (forward or defence, your choice), two goalies and five to seven bench spots (these are the extra guys you'll need when someone gets hurt, goes on a cold streak or doesn't play for a few days).
Goalies WILL receive points for all stats they accrue, including goals and assists. The Goalie Shutout Bonus is credited to goalies if they complete the entire game with 0 goals allowed in regulation + overtime.

1. Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner as the best goalie in the NHL, Vasilevskiy was 39-10-4 with a 2.40 goals-against average, a . 925 save percentage and six shutouts last season.
It is probably safe to say that the first defensem*n in a 10-team standard league comes off the board during the second round, and that is when you should start to formulate your plan.

Roster management takes time. Especially daily leagues – those take the most time because you change your roster before game start each and every day. Weekly leagues often set rosters on Mondays and last seven days. If a guy gets hurt, you're out of luck until the following week.
It's an opportunity for any team with space on the roster and under the NHL salary cap to have a third goalie on its active roster. Teams must have three goalies available this season, but one can be placed on the taxi squad.
