What happens to your money when a stock splits?
A stock split lowers its stock price but doesn't weaken its value to current shareholders. It increases the number of shares and might entice would-be buyers to make a purchase. The total value of the stock shares remains unchanged because you still own the same value of shares, even if the number of shares increases.
Do stock splits benefit investors? – It's nice to own more shares after a split, since the reduced per-share price might mean there's room for greater potential price growth. But investors shouldn't buy a stock simply because they hope it'll rise in price after a split.
So, if you owned 5,000 shares of stock at a price of 10 cents per share worth a total of $500 before the reverse split, you would own 25 shares at a price of $20 each after the reverse split, maintaining that total value of $500. The amount of money you have invested doesn't change, just the number of shares you own.
While the number of shares owned changes after a stock split, the split itself does not change your investment value.
Are Stock Splits Good or Bad? Stock splits are generally done when the stock price of a company has risen so high that it might become an impediment to new investors. Therefore, a split is often the result of growth or the prospects of future growth, and it's a positive signal.
Disadvantages of a Stock Split
A company cannot rely on a stock split to increase its value or market cap. A stock split divides the existing shares, thus keeping the market cap the same as before. Not to forget, a company must invest some amount to conduct a stock split.

After a stock split, the price adjusts but the overall value remains the same. Historically, stocks often rise after a split due to positive sentiment, but outcomes can vary based on market conditions and other factors.
If you sell your shares before a stock split, you'll receive the market value at the time of the sale. If you sell them after a stock split, the number of shares you own will increase, but the price per share will decrease proportionally.
Do stock splits affect taxes?
Stock splits don't create a taxable event; you merely receive more stock evidencing the same ownership interest in the corporation that issued the stock. You don't report income until you sell the stock. Your overall basis doesn't change as a result of a stock split, but your per share basis changes.
When any company's stock undergoes a split, the resultant share price may be increased. This is often followed by an almost immediate decrease in the price, but investors may well turn a profit if they act fast.
Berkshire Hathaway is so expensive because the stock has never been split. Warren Buffett refuses. In a biography, Buffett explained his reasoning, saying “I don't want anybody buying Berkshire thinking that they can make a lot of money fast.” However, that is the company's class A stock.
A stock split can make the shares seem more affordable, even though the underlying value of the company has not changed. It can also increase the stock's liquidity. When a stock splits, it can also result in a share price increase—even though there may be a decrease immediately after the stock split.
Stock splits can take many forms, although the most common are a 2-for-1 split, 3-for-1 split, and 3-for-2 split. A company's management and its board must approve a split, then publicly announce its intention to do so.

In some cases, stock splits can have a negative effect. Smaller companies who split their stocks may have stock prices fall too low.

Who gets money when stocks go down?
“In other words, the money did not exist or disappear for long-term investors if you did not make any transactions. However, for short-term investors, when stock prices go up or down, the money would be transferred among them as a zero-sum game, i.e. your losses would be others' gains, and vice versa.”

Selling before a reverse stock split is a good idea, but selling after the reverse stock split is not. Since you can sell before and after a reverse stock split, selling during one is optional. The main advantage of selling before the reverse stock split is that you don't have to wait around for it to happen.
