Is Squidward an octopus or squid?
Despite his name, Squidward Q. Tentacles—the grouchy neighbor of SpongeBob SquarePants in Nickelodeon's long-running cartoon—isn't a squid. He's an octopus. (Allegedly, creator Stephen Hillenburg named him Squidward because “Octoward” sounded too weird.)
Squidward Tentacles is actually an octopus even though he has only six tentacles. Creator Steven Hillenberg said it's because it's just easier to animate him with fewer tentacles.

As Buzzfeed reported on Tuesday, Spongebob Squarepants' Squidward actually isn't a squid — he's an octopus. According to creator Stephen Hillenburg, the team chose to make Squidward an octopus because he liked the look of the sea creature's head.

The force of the giant bubble popping possibly messed up Squidward's hearing, leaving him partially deaf. Long story short, Squidward could have actually been a great or at least decent musician, but SpongeBob's antics and his own pride got in the way.

When Squidward gets hit in the face with the door, his face gets more handsome. However when SpongeBob tries to make Squidward normal again, hitting him in the face makes Squidward more handsome but also gives him a very muscular appearance, which wouldn't happen by getting hit in the face with the door.

Like other octopus characters, Squilliam's character model is nearly identical to Squidward's, but he has a unibrow and wears a fancy maroon smoking jacket. He owns a private yacht, a private lake, a private heliport, a private island, and a balloon/casino.
