What is a healthy scratch?
The healthy scratch. In hockey it is a term for a player who has been scratched from his team's lineup prior to the game due to injury or a coach's decision. That player may not dress for or participate in that game. It is usually used as a warning to veteran players that retirement is near.
Healthy Scratch: A player who has no injury and is still not dressed for the game. So, a player with no injury, who is not dressed for the game is considered as a Healthy Scratch.
An uninjured player on the roster who does not dress for a game. Only 20 players (22 in international competition) are allowed to dress for a game, players who are not going to play are considered scratches.
Eight players have to sit out the game. The eight inactives are designed to allow the coach to give players with relatively minor injuries a week (or more) off to rest and recover, while still keeping them on the roster (meaning that they don't have to end their seasons by being placed on IR).
Though 53 players are on the roster, before each NFL game seven or eight, depending on whether the team has a third quarterback, must be declared inactive. The inactives get full pay but watch from the sidelines.
Most teams have at least one player earning more money than his contributions warrant. But while it's disappointing to watch a $4-million player toil on the fourth line or third defensive pair, that disappointment reaches new levels when the player becomes a healthy scratch – when he's getting paid not to play.

On average, NFL waterboys make $53,000 per year (according to Stack.com). However, that's just the salary for beginners. For professionals, their salary can be higher as any other highest paid NFL waterboy. That means it depends quite a bit on your entry-level.
How much do NFL referees make? The league does not release salaries, but various outlets have reported that as of 2019 NFL officials had an average salary of $205,000. This salary is fixed and does not depend on the number of games officiated.
The NFL's minimum player salary
As per the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement established in March 2020, NFL players' minimum salary measured up to $660,000 in the 2021 season. Since 2011, salaries have risen by nearly $300,000 in 10 years, according to Statistica.
For the each player winning the Stanley Cup they will receive about $200,000 of that amount. For many players that would be a pay cut from the normal amount they make per game during the regular season. But, in the end, no player is thinking about the money they win from the Stanley Cup.
Contrary to what fans might think, NHL players do not get an unlimited amount of free tickets to games. As per the rules in the collective-bargaining agreement, a player gets two free tickets to home games and must buy from the 50 allotted (100 during the playoffs) to each team for road games.
How much does an NHL agent make?
In general, agent fees are about 3-5% of a player's salary. They aren't taken directly from the paycheck, but the player pays the agent out of their take-home cash, thus diminishing how much they are actually putting in their bank accounts.

The first year cap number or rookie pool number consists of the player's prorated amount of signing bonus and the rookie minimum base salary, which is $705,000 in 2022.
The CFL Practice Agreement (see Appendix I of the CBA ) allows the team and player to agree to a weekly salary (not tied to games). Teams are comprised of a roughly 50/50 split between Canadians and Americans. With a limited supply of Canadian professional football talent, Canadian players in the CFL often enjoy long careers and the benefits of supply and demand on their salaries along the way.
