0 isn't wearing a number at all. (And “00” would be doubly controversial.) In sports, players wearing “0” or “00” are uncommon. Most teams won't assign those numbers. Players usually have to request them, perhaps thinking that “0” or “00” will distinguish them and make them stand out.
A legal number is: 00, 0-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, 50-55, or The 0 and 00 characters on a roster may not be used. There can be no duplicate number assigned to the same team. With fifteen different digits, including 0-99, 0!, and so on, the NBA allows the craziest combination of numbers.
It turns out that Jayson Tatum was not only influenced by Bradley Beal, but also by Gilbert Arenas, another Washington Wizards superstar. Arenas was nicknamed Agent Zero and he wore the number 0 on the back of his jersey. Jay Williams is a former NBA player who played at Duke from 1999 to 2002.
Kyle Kuzma (2018-2021)
Kyle Kuzma has donned no. 0 since he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and can make the case of being the best no. 0 in team history. While it never quite panned out for Kuzma, he did win a championship in LA and has the potential to blossom in a situation where he is given a bigger role.

The NBA does not allow the number 69 to be worn by players as it carries a sexual connotation and could offend some fans. Despite Dennis Rodman seeking permission to use it when he joined the Mavericks in 1997, the league declined and he had to settle for wearing #70 instead.
Except for offensive and defensive linemen, players can now wear the number zero. It follows in the path of college football, where the number was first allowed in 2020. Additionally, kickers and punters cam now use any jersey numeral between 0-49 and 90-99.

Everyone has their own reasons for picking their number. In particular, a famous '0' Gilbert Arenas, has said he wore his number as a tongue-in-cheek jab at his former coach who, noting Arenas' attitude problems, told him that was how many minutes he would play in the NBA.

Aside from 55, there aren't many numbers in the 51-99 range that an individual player wore for more than a season or two. In fact, the following numbers have never been worn: 58, 59, 64, 69, 74, 75, 78, 79, 80, 82, 87 and 97.

Number 00 is no longer allowed, but it was issued in the NFL before the number standardization in 1973. Jim Otto wore number "00" during most of his career with the Oakland Raiders. Wide receiver Ken Burrough of the Houston Oilers also wore "00" during his NFL career in the 1970s.

There is no one currently playing in Major League Baseball with the uniform number 69. The last player to wear that number was relief pitcher Scott Proctor, who last played in 2012. The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, contains some of baseball's most recognizable numbers.
Number 00 is no longer allowed, but was not retired in honor of any particular player; rather, the NFL's positional numbering system, imposed in 1973, simply does not allocate a position for players wearing that number (the NFL allowed that number in the past; Jim Otto and Ken Burrough wore 00).

While the No. 0 was legal in the NFL prior to 1973, it was not part of the initial rule change in 2021. However, for 2023 the NFL brought back the number zero. It is now a legal jersey number for any player aside from offense and defensive linemen.
The NHL formerly allowed players to wear both No. 0 and 00, but nobody has worn either since Marty Biron suited up for the Buffalo Sabres in 1995–96 with the double-zero on his back. The league subsequently outlawed the practice the following season. But if players in other leagues can wear 0, why can't NHL stars?
Offensive linemen must choose from numbers 50-79, while defensive linemen can wear 50-79 and 90-99. Punters and placekickers can wear to 0-49 and 90-99, where they were previously allowed to wear 1-19.
0 at their meeting earlier this year and the team that proposed the change will have a player wearing that number this fall. The Eagles announced that running back D'Andre Swift will wear No. 0 in his first year with the team.
