New for 2020, Bauer has launched their Performance Fit System which will now allow consumers to make their skate buying decision based on performance, rather than whichever line fits them best. Bauer will now offer 3 fits in both the Supreme Hockey Skate line and the Vapor Hockey Skate line providing you with the option to pick the skate that best fits your game. To help customers transition from the traditional fit system to the new Performance Fit System, Pure Hockey has updated their Bauer skate scanners in-store and provided new size charts on our product pages for online shoppers.
Bauer 3D Skate Lab
Using Bauer’s exclusive 3D Skate Lab, found in many Pure Hockey stores around the US, Bauer has collected thousands of unique foot scans in order to identify three distinct fits that cover all kinds of foot types. The three fits that came out of the 3D skate Lab scans not only identify foot width, but also foot depth and instep - key factors to obtaining optimal fit in a hockey skate. These three new fit types in combination with skate baking allow skaters to tailor their skate fit better than ever.
Fit 1 vs. Fit 2 vs. Fit 3
Before we go into detail about the new performance benefits of the new fit system, it is important to cover the 3 new fits brought to both the Vapor and Supreme lines. Traditionally players would fit into a line like Vapor, Supreme, or Nexus, and then navigate the widths of D and EE, but now skaters will have Fit 1, Fit 2, and Fit 3 available in both a Vapor and a Supreme skate. Let’s get to know our new fits!
Bauer Fit 1
Starting off with Fit 1, this will be a low-profile fit. The new Fit 1 is similar to the former Vapor D width that has been extremely popular over the years. Normal Vapor users will feel at home in the new Fit 1 which features a shallow heel pocket, low instep, and low volume to allow for the tightest fit around the ankle wrap as well as narrowest of the 3 fits. Now skaters can get the same low profile fit in Bauer Vapor Fit 1 Skates: 2X Pro, 2X, and X2.9 models, as well as the new 2020 Bauer Supreme Fit 1: Ultrasonic, 3S Pro, and 3S models.

Bauer Fit 2
Next we move on to the new Fit 2, for mid profile fit. The new Fit 2 is similar to the former Supreme D width, which was also an extremely popular fit. Former Supreme users should feel right at home in a Fit 2 as it features a mid-heel pocket and caters to those needing a slightly higher instep with increased volume int he ankle wrap as well as wider forefoot width. Now skaters can get the same mid profile fit in Bauer Supreme Fit 2 Skates: Ultrasonic, 3S Pro, and 3S models, as well as the 2019 Bauer Vapor Fit 2 Skates: 2X Pro, 2X and X2.9 models.

Bauer Fit 3
Finally, the last fit is Fit 3, for players needing the most volume. The new Fit 3, though it is the least common of Bauer’s thousands of scans is important because it caters to a specific type of foot. Players looking for volume, with a deep heel pocket, a taller instep and a wider width will find the Fit 3 to be the way to go. Now skaters can get a full volume fit in Bauer Supreme Fit 3 Skates: Ultrasonic, 3S Pro, and 3S models, as well as the Bauer Vapor Fit 3 Skates: 2X Pro, 2X and X2.9 models.

This allows skaters to decide on a skate based off the level they play, how often they skate, and finally what they are looking to get the most out of their skate depending on their game. The new 2020 Supreme skates, Ultrasonic, 3S Pro, and 3S feature performance packages to help improve a player’s power in their skating. The 2019 Vapor skates, 2X Pro, 2X, and X2.9 feature performance packages to help improve a player’s speed and agility in their skating.
As an enthusiast deeply immersed in the world of hockey equipment, I can attest to the revolutionary changes Bauer has introduced in their skate lineup for 2020. The Performance Fit System is a game-changer, allowing consumers to prioritize performance over the traditional approach of selecting skates based on fitting lines. This development aligns with the contemporary needs of players who seek optimal performance tailored to their specific foot characteristics.
One of the key pillars supporting this shift is the Bauer 3D Skate Lab, a cutting-edge technology found in Pure Hockey stores across the United States. This lab utilizes an exclusive 3D scanning system, collecting a vast array of foot scans to identify three distinct fits that comprehensively cover various foot types. This wealth of data not only considers foot width but also factors in foot depth and instep, essential elements for achieving an ideal fit in hockey skates.
The three fits—Fit 1, Fit 2, and Fit 3—break away from the traditional model of fitting players into lines like Vapor, Supreme, or Nexus and then navigating widths of D and EE. Now, players can choose from the three fits in both the Vapor and Supreme lines, offering a more nuanced approach to finding the perfect skate.
