Bumble - How and When to Use Unmatch on Bumble (2024)

Bumble is committed to helping our community feel safe and supported. That’s why we created the Unmatch option. It’s there for you to use if you want no further contact with someone you’ve matched with, and it’s simple to access: you can either go to the conversation screen, left swipe on the chat, and hit Unmatch, or click on the chat, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, and select Unmatch. After unmatching with someone, your conversation will disappear and they won’t be able to message you or see your profile.

When to Unmatch

If anyone on Bumble or Bumble For Friends makes you feel uncomfortable, harasses you, or exhibits threatening behavior, you should Unmatch them. In these situations, you should also Block and Report them so that the person can be investigated by our team.

Outside of these circ*mstances, it can be tricky to know when to use Unmatch. The bottom line is: if you don’t feel at ease with your match or you simply aren’t feeling a connection with the other person, you can decide to Unmatch. If you feel comfortable doing so, consider sending a courteous message to let the other person know of your decision. For example:

“Hey, I’ve noticed that our conversation has been dormant for a while. I don’t think there’s a connection between us so I’m going to Unmatch. I hope you find what you’re looking for!”

“Hey, it was nice meeting you on our date. I didn’t feel a romantic connection between us, so I’m going to Unmatch. Wishing you all the best!”

When to wait a minute

You should feel empowered to use the Unmatch feature whenever you want to, but if you feel there is still potential with a match, you may want to give the connection another chance. Consider communicating with them a little more first, knowing that if you change your mind and don’t want to chat with them anymore, the Unmatch feature will be there to use.

If you accidentally swiped right on someone, why not say hello and see what happens? Or if a match is slow to respond, they may be going through a busy time: give them the benefit of the doubt and try to restart the chat before deciding to hit Unmatch.

We hope this gives some clarity on how and when to use Bumble’s Unmatch feature, so you can focus on putting yourself out there and making great connections.
