How do you check if a product is CSA approved? ›

Every product that bears a CSA mark is listed in the CSA Group Product Listing. You can determine if a product has been evaluated by CSA Group by searching below. You can search by: Product type (using the keyword function) For more search results, please use the Symbol * before and after the keyword.

The CSA mark on your product means it has been tested against applicable North American standards requirements. CSA marks are found on a wide variety of North American products: electrical and electronic, gas-fired, personal protective equipment and many more.

CSA is often mistaken for the equivalent of the marking known in the European Union as the CE marking. However, the CSA marking is not legally required but a voluntary certification.

CSA and cUL are considered equivalent. Historically CSA was stricter than UL per-se, they're closer now (because of NAFTA, but not exactly the same. Another difference is that approval by CSA/cUL (or some speciality organizations) is legally required in Canada before it can be sold.

Purpose of CSA Standards

CSA standards regulate safety of applicable electrical products. In all ten provinces and two territories of Canada, laws require that electrical machinery and appliances connected to power sources conform to CSA safety standards regardless of type or quantity.

All electrical products sold in Canada are required to have one of ETL, cULus or CSA safety certification. In Canada, there are currently many LED Lighting products being sold (mostly online) that are not certified to minimum Canadian standards.

Unlike CSA, a UL certification applies only to the United States. The organization can perform the tests to the international standards (ISO) or Canada (C – UL), but the UL logo indicates that the product has been certified for the United States only.

The CSA is the Canadian Standards Association, and while many internationally sold lighting fixtures are approved by safety regulators in their country of origin/manufacturing, that does not mean they have been approved for use in Canada.

Is CSA the same as cUL? ›

The cUL mark applies to products intended for the Canadian market that have been tested and found to comply with the requirements of CAN/CSA 22.1-12, which is the Canadian Electrical Code issued by the Canadian Standards Association.

The ServiceNow CSA exam is tricky and not hard as such. You can make your preparation easier with the help of flashcards and practice tests. Upon first registration of the exam, you need a voucher and the exam will be free. After that, you have 3 retake attempts, though you have to pay for all of them individually (or use a voucher like you mentioned).

You should score at least 75 %.

Take The Practice Exam

90 minutes will be allotted to every examinee of the ServiceNow CSA exam to answer 60 multiple-choice questions. You have to score an aggregate of 70% to pass the exam. Hence, taking the practice exam becomes mandatory if you want to ace the exam on the first go.

What is ETL Listed? ETL stands for Electrical Testing Laboratories, the certification division of Intertek Testing Laboratories, who are also part of the NRTL program and provide assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services for a huge range of industries.

UL or ETL listing is almost always required by commercial building code. In an electrical product, like a lighting fixture, UL and ETL would specifically test to make sure it won't end up malfunctioning and causing a fire, or some other safety hazard.

Statutory nuisance

Civil action can be taken by an individual to tackle a lighting problem. He or she would have to be able to prove that a nuisance exists. The statutory nuisance dealing with light is defined as "artificial light emitted from premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance".

Headlight Regulations: The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulation FMVSS-108 is applicable to point sources only, not surface sources. Since LED headlights are surface sources, LED headlights are not compliant with FMVSS-108 and are not legal.

Is UL Listing accepted in Canada? ›

Combined UL Mark for Europe, Canada and United States

Products in compliance with UL's Listing and Follow-Up Service for Canada and the United States as well as our certification service for Europe and factory inspection requirements are eligible to bear a combined UL Mark for all three markets.

Unlike the UL Listing in the U.S., the CE Mark is not optional in Europe—it's legally required for products used in construction. However, the standards for the CE Mark are generally different to those used by UL. A product that is already UL Listed in the U.S. doesn't automatically qualify for the CE Mark.
