The second episode of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team brought in the veterans from last year's DCC squad. The newbies get an idea of what's in store for them as they go from being on top, to auditioning next to the experienced veterans. They're all competing for the 43 spots available at DCC training camp; 36 are expected to be on the field when the football season begins.

This half-hour episode fizzled; they had too much going on to showcase anything well. For this round, the women had an interview panel, individual dances, and choreography in small groups. A mistake in any of these three events could prevent a candidate from making it to training camp. Kelli Finglass (Director of the DCC) said if a candidate is totally ditzy on any subject, that's an automatic no … (read on, for our favorite part of the episode).

The girls were all dolled up in their serious, grown-up clothes (not the underwear they usually run around in) for their interviews. This is where Kristin Pedigo blew her chance. When asked what she thought about Condoleezza Rice running for president, she fumbled through her answer, saying she wishes him all the best (and she talked about how the President has to give up his title soon, as if it were a beauty contest). Later she referred to "Condoleezza Jones." The scariest part? Her husband is a Marine.

The dancing was shown in very short clips, but it looked like it was … well, seriously? Who could tell with those little clips? But, was anyone else a little creeped out by the Cat Woman? Who was that? Every time we watched it, it scared us a little bit more. So, of course, we had to watch it repeatedly.

The dancer who disastrously kicked over a chair mid-routine? That was Alex Benvenuto. Maybe we'll see her again next season.

We're amazed Melissa Rycroft will be returning for her second year. She knew she messed up when she forgot her choreography; she told the camera all she remembered was wiggling and standing a lot. Maybe the judges kept her in for her humor.

Of the four returning women we mentioned last week (Natalie Woods, Meagan Flaherty, Miranda James, and Candice Carr), the only one who didn't make it into training camp was Miranda James. Miranda swears this was her last attempt at making the DCC team; this was her fourth audition, and she never made it into training camp. Anyone want to start taking odds on her return next year?

And does anyone else think Meagan looks like Julia Roberts-lite?

Some of the newbies who made it into training camp are Texan Meredith Oden (whose Mom was a DCC), Gina Becchetti from Minnesota, and Nina Moch from Atlanta.

Christina Murphy also made it, is profoundly deaf, and an amazing dancer. So good, she made their dance teacher, Kitty Carter, cry. Real tears, from the woman who is brutally honest, with extra brutal added, just for fun. It'll be interesting to see how Christina does with learning new choreography and working with the team. We're hoping she makes it, it would certainly add a new diversity to the DCC.

Candice Cook (from Kansas City, Kansas) didn't make it, and we'll miss her alliterate name.

Only one of the returning veterans trying out didn't make it through tryouts, and was understandably upset. She must have made Kelli and Judy very unhappy over the past year, to lose her spot.

Tune in next week to watch the ladies suffer through cheerleader boot camp. As Kelli says, those who are good will get cut; those who are great will make the team.
