National Hockey League (NHL) franchise the Los Angeles Kings have inked a multi-year sponsorship agreement with fast food giant McDonald’s.
The deal expands McDonald’s longstanding partnership with the Kings, having been a founding partner of the reigning Stanley Cup champions for 14 seasons, and will see the fast food chain – the official quick service restaurant of the NHL – become the Kings’ presenting sponsor until the end of the 2013/14 season.
The deal will see the launch of a new joint logo integrating the McDonald’s brand with the Kings shield. In addition, according to an official press release, ‘McDonald's will be the presenting sponsor of the opening night banner giveaway, receive logo placement on the Kings’ practice jerseys and press backdrops.’ The financial terms of the deal were not released.
“McDonald’s has been a great long time supporter of the Kings and we are very excited to extend and enhance our relationship with them,” said Kings president, business operations Luc Robitaille. “Our brands side by side look incredible and we have such admiration and respect for the McDonald's franchisee’s and their agency Davis Elen, that it seems to be a perfect match.”

“We’re happy this season has been saved, and look forward to our Stanley Cup champion Kings taking the ice on the 19th, to a winning season, and to a continuing partnership in the future.”
The NHL and its Players’ Association reached an agreement last week over a new Central Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to end a 113-day lockout which saw the loss of over half of this year's regular season games.
