The Birmingham Squadron, the NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, will hold open tryouts for local players this Saturday at the Lakeshore Foundation. The team is entering its second season in Birmingham.The tryouts will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at 4000 Ridgeway Drive in Birmingham. According to the Squadron website, the tryout gives participants a chance to "showcase their talents in front of Squadron coaches and front office staff for the opportunity to make the Squadron roster and participate in the team’s fall training camp."Observers won't be allowed entrance into the tryouts.Last year, a 62-year-old Huntsville, Alabama man tried out for the team.
