NEMA 7 enclosures are designed to contain an internal explosion without causing an external hazard. These enclosures are intended for indoor use in hazardous locations classified as Class I, Division I, Groups A,B,C, or D.
Class I:Class I locations are defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC) as locations in which flammable gases or vapors are or may be present in the air in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures.
Groups A, B, C, or D:The labels Group A, B, C and D are given to the following gas or vapor respectively: acetylene; hydrogen; ethylene and gasoline. Class I locations are divided into these lettered groups determined by the specific gas or vapor involved because different materials have different ignition and explosion characteristics.
Division I:These Class and Group locations are further classified according to whether hazardous concentrations of flammable gases or vapors are likely to occur in the course of normal operations – Division I – or only in the case of an accident or unusual operating condition – Division II.
Construction
Most of Adalet’s NEMA 7 enclosures are designed to be lightweight and corrosion resistant. Enclosures include integral, cast-on mounting lugs slotted for ease of field installation and uniform wall thickness for ease of installation of control devices, windows and conduit openings.

Applications
NEMA 7 enclosures are typically used in chemical plants, oil and gas facilities, and other locations located near hazardous areas of combustible gases.
