Rule of 75 (2024)

Rule of 75

The rule of 75 applies to a player who meets the following criteria:

  • Over 75 years of age
  • Has an index that normally qualifies them to compete in the A-flight and therefore play from the pine tees.

In flighted competitions, these players play in the B-flight (pine-rust tees).
In non-flighted competitions, these players play from the pine/rust tees.

Example:

  • Player X is over 75 years of age and has an index of 8.5.
  • Normally he would be an A-flight player, playing from the pine tees with a course handicap of 7.
  • Under rule 75, he plays in the B-flight from the pine-rust tees with a course handicap of 5.

Notes:

  1. If a player elects to play under either of these two rules, he must continue to play under this rule for at least one year.
  2. The rule of 75 does not apply to the Club Championship. To compete in the Club Championship, all players must play from the pine tees
  3. Because of a change in the way course handicaps are calculated under the 2020 Global Handicap System, there is no requirement to make a manual change the player’s handicap index.
