Flat bottom V or FBV is a completely new way of sharpening the skates. With FBV sharpening, the player gets his blades according to his style of play. The Flat Bottom V name comes from the new design of the blade profile. The shape of the groove is like the upside-down turned V on a smooth, good sloping base. The smooth bottom slides lightly and does not cut in ice. This reduces resistance and increases speed. At the same time, sharp edges provide grip and control. There are several options available for FBV sharpening.
Our FBV options:
The 1 Series is the deepest groove in FBV, yet still far below the traditional groove, meaning a good slide.
1 Series Options:
85-1, for a sharp skater.
The 75 series is the middle depth of FBV. Suitable for players who like a sharp skate.
100-75, very sharp skate, suitable for goalkeepers, for example. Not recommended for a player’s skate.
90-75, a very sharp skate, player’s option.
85-75, fairly sharp player’s option.
The 50 Series is the lowest FBV groove, giving you the best possible glide. This series contains all of our most popular options.
100-50, a sharp skate for a lightweight junior player, who likes a very sharp skate.
95-50, the most popular option for junior players. It is also suitable for adults if you like a sharper groove.
92-50, middle of the two popular options (95-50 and 90-50). Very popular with Finnish Liiga players.
90-50, the most popular option of adults.
85-50, less sharp than 90-50.
80-50, mild groove.
70-50, very mild groove. For example, a heavyweight player who does not like too sharp edges.
TRADITIONAL HOLLOW
We can also do the traditional hollow.

3/8″ = 9.5 mm, a very sharp groove for goalkeepers or figure skating.
1/2″ = 13 mm, a very sharp player’s groove, or for figure skating, which is not yet required for extreme sharpness, meaning no demanding jumps.
9/16″ = 14 mm, slightly previous milder but still sharp.
5/8″ = 16 mm, a sharp groove for a hockey player or figure skating.
3/4″ = 19 mm, still quite sharp.
7/8″ = 22 mm, common groove.
15/16″ = 24 mm, perhaps the most common.
1 1/16″ = 27 mm, mild groove.
1 1/4″ = 32 mm, very mild groove.

Profiling options:
7 feet = 2.1 meter radius, very agile blade, very rarely used.
9′ = 2.7 m, an agile skater, the most popular design in North America due to the small rink.
10′ = 3 m, still agile, but slightly faster than the previous one.
11′ = 3.4 m, our most popular profile. Good compromise on speed and agility.
12′ = 3.65 m, longer slide, more than average
13′ = 4 m, a long slide, no longer so agile.
14′ = 4.3 m, a much faster slide, but agility has clearly weakened.
15′ = 4.6 m, very fast skate, which may not be able to get really tight u-turns.
28′ = 8.5m, Goalkeeper Formation, also used for the downhill skating.
